Default FishPlay Involved In Fatality Accident

I just got home from the scene of a fatality accident that happened around 7:30PM.

A portion of highway 22 was still closed when I left.

The Raider looks to be a total loss.

I'm very fortunate to be alive!

At least one man lost his life tonight and one other was life flighted; I don't know if he made it or not. :depressed:

Very frightening event!

Life is so fragile and things happen so quickly.

Please drive safely and defensively....you never know when that oncoming car is going to come striaght for you.

My God! That is aweful, but I am so glad you are O.K. The boats and cars and other things are replaceable and not that important in any real sense, not when you compaere them to our lives. Thanks for the deadly reminder that the ocean isn't the only risk we face when pursuing our passion. Bless you, Dave

My thoughts exactly Dave. I am one very lucky guy.

The boat is certainly replaceable and insurance will cover most of it.

But even if it didn't I would still consider myself very fortunate.

Thank you both for your kind words and blessing.

Now, I'm gonna see if I can sleep.

Oh my God.....Greg, so glad you are able to tell the story....

I always believe that the most dangerous part of my fishing habit is the drive back & forth on Hwy 20 to Newport.

Thank goodness you had the wits to be driving so defensively to pull yourself out of it.

All the best......... MM

Thank you all for your support and again thanks to those who have called and PM'ed.

I have thanked the Lord for being spared and said some prayers for those criticaly injured, the deceased, and their famillies.

Here are some pictures of whats left of the boat.

The full extent of damage isn't really reflected in these pic's.

Overall this was one tuff boat. Many dents and major road rash.

Not one crack, or split weld.

I'd bet the damn thing would float.

But it is beat from one end to the other!

Greg, I with you on this one...Thank god you are alive!! and not just alive you are able to walk, talk, and tell the story on the same day!

I am sorry for your loss of material goods but celebrate your continued life at this moment. On the bright side if there was ANYTHING you didnt like about the raider you have the chance to change it.

my prayers are with the families of those who weren't so fortunate.

Very glad to hear you are OK. Looks like one tough boat. Guess this means I won't be going for a ride in it after all.

Read this at my friends house while fishing out of Hammond for the weekend. Drove home to Portland real careful Sunday evening and thought about what can happen out there if your not paying attention. Got passed by a crazy fishing guide who shall go unnamed on hwy 30 using the oncoming traffic lane and going about 80 mph with a large boat in tow. Had to tap my brakes to let him in before the oncoming traffic gaught up to him. Hope he reads this for his sake and for the safety of others.

I know you probably have had plenty of offers but you are welcome on my boat any time you need a ride.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind words, advice, and offers of help and open seats.

I may be taking some or all of you up on them.

The real tradgedy is the two lives lost. The rest is just life and I'm happy to have to deal with what life sends me.

I hope this post gets some peoples attention and makes them both more aware of their surroundings when driving and also slower safer drivers.

Too many people in too big of hurry and too much complacency.

Safe travels to all!

Greg,
Just wanted to say it was nice meeting you on Sunday and fishing with you.
Hopefully fishing with Pilar and I and a few tuners and 'butts got your mind off of things for a day....I don't know about you, but I had a blast! Hope everything works out ok for you. Paul

Greg-
I am so glad you are OK. I am very sorry that this happened to you and to the unfortunate folks who lost their lives. The boat? Well, that's just a thing, and those are replacable.
