Here's Waldo!
I've been dogless since having my old chocolate lab Odell put down 6 months ago. Today I remedied that with Waldo, a 2-month-old, 20-pound, male black lab pup. Took him to the vet for a quick checkup and everything looks good . Here's a pic:
GSA Thanks DBD for loading it...or whatever it is you did.

Re: Here's Waldo!
Thanks guys...Waldo is getting used to his new digs and seems to be a mellow, laid-back dog. Out in the yard, he is interested in things like birds flying past and leaves blowing in the breeze...which he chases down and brings back...at least part way. I hope to have him retrieving mallards before the next season is over .
Here's another picture...

Great looking pup GSA. Mellow? When he is laying on the porch look at his eyes. I can just hear him thinking. When is he going to leave with that camra so I can get down to some good old mischief.

Re: Here's Waldo!
While at the vet I asked about dewclaw removal...thought it was generally a good thing to do...but the dog doc said Waldo's dewclaws are full fledged "thumbs" and not the vestigal type...and he recommended leaving them. Is the vet right?

Re: Here's Waldo!
Sweet pup, GSA.
Retreive? Him? Looks to me like he'll be running the household, and probably have you doing his beck and call, not the other way around.
He's a real cutie. You guys and your pups are starting to work on my wife. Three times this week she's mentioned it might be nice to get another lab for Mattie to play with. Hmmmmm.
Your dogs must all be of the "Lake" series; Dexter, Odell, now Waldo. Only about 400 to go.
Congrats!

The vet told me the same thing about the dew claws for my lab. It has been four seasons hunting ducks with her and have not had a problem.

Re: Here's Waldo!
Those aren't accidents...he does it just to annoy me! Number 2...no problem. But he's created several No.1 toxic waste  dumps on my carpet .
Waldo is learning his name and will come when called most of the time...when/if he wants to. Yesterday 3 doves flew past and he definitely sat up and took notice...intently watched them fly past and out of sight. He's birdy.
Here's what he looks like today.

Re: Here's Waldo!
Yes, Waldo is all pup!
Went for a drive this morning in the upper Siuslaw River basin...and on this spur road at the top of a 5-yr-old clearcut an adult mountain quail ran across the road followed by about a dozen chicks the size of golf balls. These little quail could already fly...and they dispersed into the roadside brush & weeds. Waldo got his first nosefull of quail scent...he seemed very intrigued & excited by the whole event.
He both walks and runs, Skein.

Re: Here's Waldo!
Looks like his nose works, too.
Don't you love the transformation that occurs when you take 'em out in the woods. My pup went from cute and cuddly to all business the first time she hit the Big Outdoors. I would have loved for her to cross some quail. That must have been a real treat.
Better get that old double-gun oiled up, and your walking shoes on....

Re: Here's Waldo!
GSA,
Honestly, while your dog is at this puppy age, you can't post too many pictures of him. I think all lab lovers have an even more special place in their hearts for the pups. If it weren't for the two 6 year olds that I already have, I'd be darned tempted to start thinking about a new one after seeing these!

Re: Here's Waldo!
Here's Waldo the attack pup at Odell Lake yesterday. He is a good fisherdog...lays in the shady side of the boat and sleeps most of the time...but on shore he is fun to watch...something about that weed just didn't look right to him.

Re: Here's Waldo!
Waldo went in for his booster shot today...vet's scales weighed him at 32 lbs.
He's got the house training idea pretty well down now...hasn't been a "Bad Dog!" for a couple weeks.

Re: Here's Waldo!
Took Waldo to the LongTom River at Alderwood State Park to play in the water. He's still a non-swimmer but is getting used to running in the shallows and retrieving sticks. He weighs 33 lbs and is 97 days old.

Re: Here's Waldo!
GSA, keep up the great updates. Those puppy days go by way to soon. I have a 6 year old male black lab that weighs in right around 95 lbs or solid muscle and during his first year he put on twenty pounds in one month! Seems to me he went from one vet visit at 38 lbs to 58 on the next visit a month later. Beware!

Re: Here's Waldo!
Well, right now Waldo is curled up at my feet, under the desk, catching 40 winks.
This morning he went fishing with me at Triangle Lake...45 degrees & foggy. Caught one nice 13" kokanee trolling weddingring & corn at 34'.

Good looking dog, GSA. Looks like your days of laying in the mud making ducky sounds are just beginning - again.
You're not havin' fun, are you?
