Default Safari Sling?

Anybody using this sling? How do you like it? Would you recomned it? I am looking for a new sling for my .300. I almost always have my pack on so something that doesn't interfere with it would be great. May end up buying a scaboard that attaches to my pack if these arent popular.

I used them for a few seasons. They were fine.

Swithced to the Butler creek neoprene unit( my whimpy neck loves the spongy unit).

Mark and the dog.

The best thing I ever did was switch to the Safari sling. They are so versatile and comfortable to use. Switched all my rifles to them.

I guess I will have to pick one up to try out. Seems to be pretty well liked. Thanks for the opinions.

A friend of mine swapped me rifles in the field about 7 years ago. He had a safari sling. I had a traditional shoulder sling. After 10 minutes, I made up my mind that I was going to have nothing else on any of my rifles.

I have never needed a quick draw, but with a little practice, a safari sling is very affective in this area. Another benefit is being able to get caught on the trail and slowly sitting down with the gun near the ready. I used to hate getting caught and spooking the deer/elk while pulling the rifle off of my shoulder.

There is one drawback. If you are accustomed to locking tight into your sling for stability, the safari sling will have a LOT of slack to take up. I have broken most of this habit and taken up the use of steady stiks to accomodate the need for precision.

Steady stiks also work well for use as a walking stick. This is very helpful when you get caught on the trail with one foot in the air and a need to freeze. It is amazing how long I can keep a foot raised in the air with the adrenaline pumping. I did this for at least 10 minutes before taking a 6X6 muly last year. The mount turned out beautifully.
