Default Ritter Elk

I drew a Ritter elk tag, General season. Have not hunted that specific area. Is only 10% public lands, but I know more area than that is huntable. The area is west of 395, east & south of No. Fk. John Day Riv. Basically around the town of Dale plus a little. Should be good hunting... Anyone with more specific info would be appreciated. Will go over and pre-scout and am checking with ODFW-biologist. Thanks in advance.

I think a bunch of that ground is leased up by ...I think Powder River Outfitters. There was a bunch of timber ground we used to hunt in there but it is all locked of now. I have hunted the other side plenty though. Five Mile Creek ALWAYS has elk in it! If that is part of your unit boundary

Get out your topo maps and look at dropping in from the north side off the 23 series roads. theres lots more blm there that you can hunt on foot. last year the roads were posted to motorized traffic. we were able hike in during deer season and didn't see another hunter after the first mile. nice country don't forget your spotting scope we could see snow mt lookout in murders creek from where we parked the truck. good luck.
