Default Has anybody seen this new reg??

This new regulation was mentioned to me by a fellow ifisher. I didn't believe him at first. Sure enough, here's the quote from page 10 of the regs.

Quote:
No Person Shall:

• Possess the meat or carcass of any
deer or elk killed in Oregon without
evidence of sex while in the field, for-est,
or in transit on any of the hwys or
premises open to the public in
Oregon, except processed or cut and
wrapped meat. Evidence of sex is:
For males: Head naturally at-tached
to carcass with antlers, or
testicles, scrotum, or *****
naturally attached to one quarter of
the carcass or to another
major portion of meat.
For females: Head naturally
attached to carcass, or vulva
or udder (mammary) naturally
attached to one quarter of the
carcass or to another major portion
of meat.
<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">I am very proud of the fact that I take very good care of the animals I harvest. I want someone from ODFW to show me how to field dress an animal AND leave the sex organs intact and not risk contaminating the meat with hair, urine, or feces.

It's been done in Colorado for years. I recommend on bulls remove the hide (scrotum) and leave a testy stuck to each hind quarter. On a cow you can skin right around the vulva.

The head attached to a front quarter is what worries me. Can't think of a good way to pack a mule with a branch bull head attached to a fore quarter and get it out of the woods.

Another law that will make a hastle for people. We now have capabilities to do (DNA) testing on an animal in a matter of days you can tell if the head you possess belongs to the meat you claim, Male or Female. What a crock.

Loved it when channel 2 news did a special on the new Tahoe the State Police bought last month. Nobody could explain why it was bought. We must be squandering the money to be able to buy a Tahoe for the cops to run on the highway. Our Government is so corrupt it's mind boggling.

Idaho has the same regulation, and Oregon added it to be inline with several other states.

We left part of the pen-is on a hind quarter but with no hair. We cut most of the pen-is off and left about an inch of its base attached to the hind quarter. Very clean not to hard to do.

Law was designed to prevent somebody from shooting a buck/bull way back in the boonies, and packing the horns out, then shooting a doe/cow along the road and throwing the meat in the truck with the horns making a whole animal and saving a bunch of packing. This way they have to at least pack a quarter of the bull/buck out

BOE is right...the rule wouldn't be necessary if everybody adhered to the rules. Unfortunately, quite a few people have tried (and gotten away with) shooting a cow elk or doe deer after first bagging a bull or buck then using the head to "legitimize" the illegal meat. DNA testing is a wonderful thing but takes time...it isn't much help to the cop out in the woods.

Yeah, I read that awhile back. Another case of a few idiots screwing it up for the rest of us. I had wondered about the easiest ways to comply. Thank you to the guys who gave suggestions!

Well If I read the above correctly doesn't it say Antlers attached Or sex organ attached. So that would be to me, one or the other. Correct?

I understand the reasoning behind the new reg and I'll figure out a way to comply. I guess I'm just put out because, once again, the honest sportsmans (and women) have to jump through a bunch of regulatory hoops because the of the dirtbags of the world. or a hntngirl put it.........

We have this reg in washington and yes it is a pain in the rear, but it is a necessity with the trash that we have to share the woods with. You should be happy you're just now having to do it.

Just a couple swipes with the knife without thinking and your illegal. I know I'll screw it up! This topic needs to be reviewed in camp. I just wonder how many will be penalized for a thoughtless mistake.

I agree with most of ya. It is unfortunate that it has to come to this. It is also sad that they wasted good money on new vehicles and not a cleanly written and well thought thru reg.

As a newer hunter, I will make a mistake or two feild dressing and this is where the option of fron or back will help me.

Packing out an elk alone will make leaving the head attached an interesting experience.
