Default wild coho

I saw three wild coho get confinscated in Hammond today. One guy refused to allow the ODFW sportchecker to seize his fish because he had no doubt in his mind it was a chinook (it wasnt even close). State police were called to take his wild coho away and give him a ticket. Perhaps a lesson in species identification is in order.

I was cleaning fish last sunday at the cleaning station by the boat launch, when a group of guys walked up and layed 3 wild coho down. I just finished cleaning my fish and left, wasn't really sure what to do.

People really need to learn the regs, while monitoring the vhf sunday, I couldn't believe how many people were asking what was legal to keep.

anytime you see a fish or game violation you should contact state police. Anyone that abuses the laws established to protect the sport does not deserve to participate in it and could potentially damage it for someone else. We do not need these guys ruining it for anyone else. I understand that sometimes fish are mistaken as another species but if you are a fisherman that cannot distinguish the species he is fishing for then i do not feel you should be fishing period.

The case with each of the three wild coho I saw was a claim of mistaken identity. Yet, when the OPS officer took a hatchery coho and put it next to the fish in question - they were identical.

If you tell the fish checker, they will contact the police. I did this a couple years ago. The "suspect" waited until I finished cleaning my fish, trying to wait for me to leave. Trying to be sneaky I guess, but not that smart if you are going to clean them in a public spot. No cop on duty, but the fish checker can get ahold of them quickly.
