New Mathews
I bought a new LX this year and love it. I have a question on gaining a little more speed. I realize speed is not everything, I am just a little curious on something I overheard the other day. I heard a guy at a local Bow shop say that he achieved 5-6 more lbs of pull out of his LX by twisting the bus cables. Is this true and if so what does it do to your bow. Does it hurt it etc.

Re: New Mathews
I got the LX this year too and its awesome. Dont know the answer to your speed question but I wouldnt even worry about it.
Thats a great shooting bow. The first time I took it out and sighted it in I was shooting 5 inch groups at 50 yards. Smooth shooting piece of equipment.

Re: New Mathews
By twisting the bus cables it shortn's the recoil of your bow, this can increase speed, but and i say but it also can cause the bow to short'n the recoil and can cause wear. I also have a matthews and i would play with it a little. This can also change the single cam timing but not enough to matter. I would look at your arrow selection and wieght. Practice practice practice, shoot as many 3D shoots as you can for prep of hunting. Also the guys at broken arrow archery are a good chooice in tuneing and product.

Re: New Mathews
It would be a safer bet to change arrows.....If you twist string or cables....they wear....and they just stretch more..and faster...eventually going back down in draw weight. If you do it wrong...you can make a mess of things. If you dont have a bow press at your disposal, I wouldnt even think about it. It is kind of trial and error in my opinion. If the bow is shooting good I wouldnt touch it. I've twisted cables and strings, with mixed results....most times untwisting things back to where they were. I own two Mathews...Legacy and Icon, and have had three others. Just my opinion....Good luck, Russ

Re: New Mathews
Thank's Russ, I decided to leave my bow alone. Everyone gets hung up on trying to get more speed out of their bow, including myself. I chronographed my LX last weekend and it is shooting a 440 grain carbon @ 290 fps. Fast enough for me. My kenetic energy is awesome. Thanks again for the input.

Re: New Mathews
440 grain arrow at 290fps. Either you have a faulty chronograph or you have really long arms.

Re: New Mathews
I'm saying you can't get that much speed out of an lx with a 440 grain arrow unless you are shooting a 30 in + draw length. Wasn't looking for a debate just noticed that you must be a tall individual.
I have a bow with the same ibo and with a 400 grain arrow at 29" of draw and 70lbs of pull was only 280 fps.

Re: New Mathews
FYI for llabwolg.
I was wrong on the arrow weight. This is what I am shooting.
PSE dominator 400 arrows (31in) dipped = 295 grains
PSE carbon insert= 12 grains
3(3 inch fletches)= 6 grains
PSE nock= 13 grains
Steelforce broadhead= 100 grains
Arrow weight totals = approx. 426 grains
Mathews LX set @ 70 lbs. with a 31 inch draw.
speed = 290 ft/sec.
Kenetic energy = 79.57

Re: New Mathews
That makes sense with the 31" draw. I wish I had a long draw length like that. Extremely jealous I am. My uncle has the big draw length and rubs it in all the time.

Re: New Mathews
Man, it sucks, my draw length is only 26.5"!! I have to REALLY crank up the poundage to even come close to you guys in the speed department...and even then, I don't have a chance.
Guess I just need to hit where it needs to be hit!!

Re: New Mathews
Remember speed isn't everything. The most important thing is confidence in the equipment you use. Speed is definitly a plus but there needs to be an overall balance. To fast equals bad broadhed flight etc. I have a friend that has been shooting the same bow for 9 years using heavy alum. arrows and has humanely taken both elk and deer almost every year.
