Default Nehalem River info.

Looking for a little info on the Nehalem River. I fished it last year from the bank and did good but this year I would like to take the sled above the 101 bridge up to Roy Creek camp ground and float some eggs. PM me if you could on areas/holes to fish any help would be great. thanks

On a outgong or any kind of low tide it will be real tough to get all the way to Roy creek in a sled. You can fish a little ways above the train tressel but you musty be real careful once you get around windy bend. There are some channels you can get through but it is much easier as the tide comes in.

Flat Ocean
Tidewater goes beyond Roy creek. The cut-off last time I read was at the bottom end of the gravel pit and thats aways up from Roy creek. But as mentioned above its pretty skinny this time of year watch the tides closely. Be careful its not worth dinging your boat up wait for high tide.

I was told by fish & wildlife, that they considered the end of the bay to be at the Miami river road bridge. This was in reguards to our fall fishing derby.

A 10 foot tide will flood to the hole below the gravel pit. As for running a boat...... It is very shallow at low tide and anable to navigate in a power boat unless you are an expert boatsman, & even then you are going to crash at these water levels. I have run it for 15 years in a sled and have put it up on the rocks more than once. It is less than 4" in several riffles and makes sharp corners that are only as wide as your boat is long.

As for regulations...... Here it is..
You can run any power boat from the mouth to(Peterson Cr.) Gavel pit and that is the deadline from Sept 1 thru March 30th. After that it is open it entire length to any motor boat.

If you don't know the river any where above Windy Bend you better go slow with eyes open the first few times. Above Railroad Bridge you must be very tide concious or you might stay there a while. If you have to go to Roy Creek Your best to put in up there and stay up there. Like Lund said it is very narrow and shallow. Bigger prop boats are best to stay away.

Not only that but the rocks are really sharp. I've seen some really heavy damage, even going slow.

They are sharp angled rocks and they really sneak up on you!

(Don't ask how we know!)
