Default Bow for elk???

Ok, I have stopped relying on my father for this unting thing, in the past three years I have shot just as many deer as he has in the last, well, 16 or so years with bow. But he has never shot a elk so I think I might just be going out with a few of my buddys. I was looking for a place along the coast to hunt elk with bow. I have hunted around reedsport and found great numbers of elk but right when you are drawn back a hunter walks in while talking. I have only hunted for elk about 2 weeks in the past three years, the fishing was just too good..... So is anyone willing to fork up one of there coast elk opps?????

Thanks a ton, John

P.S. you can e-mail me at LittleRiffle@netscape.net

You're going to find about as many people in the area around reedsport as anywhere else on the coast. Unfortunately there aren't as many off the beaten path places in Western Oregon thanks the to timber companies. There are a lot of elk in the areas you're hunting so my advice is to stay there but do some scouting ahead of time and find places that only have one way in, so if people see your truck there they won't come in on you. I also hunt the same areas and they are very productive, so go with the places you know better is my advice.

Yeah I know what you mean, but there in reedsport we have some good places see huge elk and what not but the truck don't stop alot of guys. My father has hunted there for like 13-14 years had shots at everything from a cow to 6x7 and he has never hit one, because the dude shakes so stinkin much can't control himself. We know of some other areas but they are blm and have gates on them. The only way in would be with a horse or something and we no longer have horses, and my uncle wouldn't let us use his.....

I bow hunted around hebo last year, opening weekend. Alot of animals, but christ is it thick. Worth scouting to come up with a game plan. I aggree, tough to find spots to yourself, but it can be down with alot of work and planning.

Two thoughts
1. Use the walking talking other hunters to your advantage and station yourself accordingly especially opening weekend. I can hear "stealthy" hunters from almost 1/4 mile away from a tree stand, and my hearing sucks!
2. A float tube/raft can provide some key stategic ideas. Get a topo map.
