When I was living in Portland, I used to get all my topo maps downtown at a place called 'Captain Nautical's'. 138 NW 10th, just off Burnside a few blocks, west side of the river. Always seemed to have a great selection of topos to choose from.

I don't know if you still can, but you use to be able to buy maps from the forest service. If you can find out which office handles the area your looking for you could contact them to find out. I've done this before but it was a while back.

PS - You could also try this link, I've found some good stuff on here for some areas I was looking for http://www.topozone.com/default.asp

GI Joes has a service where they will print you maps on waterproof paper. It works real well and the maps are great.

See my earlier post.
Look no further!!
It's a state run store in the state building.
BLM, State Forestry, National forest maps, topo's. Virtually all maps pertaining to this state and some of Washington. It's all there!

All in one location, no need to travel from agency to agency.

Man, I can't believe it is gone! I go there every season and pick up a dozen or so maps. My stamp card only needs one more to get a free map too! :depressed:

Serious panic there. I will have to go with plan 'B' now. OK. Check out what GI Joe's has, then head over to Fisherman's Marine. There is The Mountain Shop in downtown Portland for some maps.

But the most maps and best help finding maps that I have found is OBP Reprographics at 732 SE Hawthorne Blvd (503) 232-1161

You can also contact the USGS (U.S. Geological Survey) folks. They have aerial pics & topo maps. I like them because if you use them next to the Forset Service maps, you can make out different kinds of vegetation, see the roads, trails, clearcuts & meadows, etc. Really helps to understand the terrain you're going into. BTW, the Forest Service maps are rarely up-to-the-minute (but whose are?) but they're pretty good if you understand the road numbering system. Have fun!

You should be able to find the maps you are looking for at the State office building over near LLoyd Center. The store on the first floor is the place. You can also buy maps on disk for your computer. I have the National Geographic set. Spendy but worth it to me. It has all of the USGS Topo maps for the state. I am able to tie it in to a GPS and print what maps I want.
