Default The latest SST.....

The latest SST shows 60+ degree water 8nm west of Depoe Bay and almost as close as the Rock Pile off Newport. The warm water appears to be moving inshore and concentrating (very few areas below 60-62 degrees). Another break to very warm water just NW of TT.

(cough cough) I could be sick by Friday...........

If you had gone out at 290 degrees instead of 270 degrees you would have hit 60 degree water within 23nm.

Yea I know but KETA was giving directions
There seems to be a sizable cold water upwelling that he likes to go right down the middle of when we head out

Crabby, are you lookin' at the central coast forecast?

This is what I'm seeing from Cape Shoalwater to Cascade Head

.TODAY...N WIND 10 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT. NW SWELL 6 FT AT 9 SECONDS...SUBSIDING TO 5 FT AT 9 SECONDS. .TONIGHT...N WIND 15 TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES 4 FT. NW SWELL 6 FT AT 9 SECONDS. .THU...N WIND 10 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT. NW SWELL 6 FT AT 10 SECONDS. .THU NIGHT...N WIND 10 KT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. NW SWELL 6 FT. .FRI...W WIND 5 KT...BECOMING SW IN THE AFTERNOON. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. NW SWELL 5 FT. .FRI NIGHT...SW WIND 10 KT...BECOMING W AFTER MIDNIGHT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. NW SWELL 5 FT. .SAT...SW WIND 10 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT. NW SWELL 6 FT. .SUN...NW WIND 10 TO 15 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT. NW SWELL 6 FT.

2 & 6... Okay, might not be bad, but the 2 is from the SW and the 6 is from the NW... You know how I feel about a forecast with an S in it

But, it's only Wednesday.

Lay down Beeeaaaaach!

S/SW wind makes for a good halibut drift and a crummy ocean for tuna.

If I were a Tuna fisherman that temp break is where I would be. That is the sharpest, longest break I have seen this season. The only thing that would concern me is the cool water plume in the middle. I bet that is where Keta is "steering" the research boat.... that ones for you FR

I don't think he has much say in where the big boat is heading.

We've been eyeing that break for about a week now. However it's still 45-50 miles out. With an ocean forcast that is unreliable at this point it's hard to say what's going to happen. If it reaches high 30's for travel, we'll make a go of it on saturday, but I'm having trouble finding running mates for it. Most of us just aren't interested in running 50+ like I'm hearing about up north. Mostly for costs and unknown of finding fish at this point. But all the feelers are out that's for sure.

I have also been watching that break and it looks awesome.
Weather depeneding I could be very interested in pulling the boat out of winchester and coming to coosbay on sunday, monday, tuesday.
I know another guy who is very tuna savy that would probably do the same with his boat.
As long as weather is forcasted good I will most certainly run 50 miles or better for the chance to get into them.
I am new to this forum and you guys havent responded to posts yet however there is a little salt in my viens. I am very interested in getting something going on the south coast like the guys up north seem to have.

Keep in touch, I'll post something probably tomorrow night if we're going to make a try for it and would love to see some other boats traveling along with us. The more boats, the better off we are in finding the fish in large numbers. The funny thing is, from Coos Bay it's 45 miles, Bandon is 41, and Port Orford 42. A long day, but doable on a good ocean.

A group of Southern Valley ifishers, Fishwhenican, Northriver1, Bobber Boy, Crit'r Git'r and Myself are going to be In Port Orford over the Weekend. .

The original plan is to go Diving, collect BIG Ling cod and Scallops but....looking at the SST's we are putting our good eye on that warm water break. If the weather holds and the south wind pushes the water in a little closer...we will attemp to load the boats full of TUNA!
Keep in touch and we will have more info by Friday.

I will be away from the computer after tomorrow evening. Winchester bound!! My home is a little NE of Springfield but my second home is Winchester Bay.
I would be happy to give you a cell number or take yours or as many of the other guys contact info as care to share it.
Our last trip was about 3 weeks ago out of Winchester. 55 miles to the right water 28 fish for 2 boats and a little bump on things getting home. Can't wait to go again.
I sell RVs for a living so I can usually get away if things are right.
Let me know if you want a cell number and I guess I will just post it. I don't see any reason to think that would not be OK on this forum. Name of my boat is FishTakes, most of the guides and charters hail me by that name or my given name which is Dick Pickett. I used albacorefreak only as a last resort because someone else is using fishtales on this forum.
Look forward to meeting some of you guys and possibly running together.
