Default Sixes youth hunt

Hi all,
I am thinking about trying to get my 2 boys 13 and 14 one of the leftover youth doe tags for the Sixes unit, it says theres only 8% public land, can anyone here shed some light on whether or not I should try this since I dont know the unit very well? I have plenty of time for pre season scouting, but if theres no property that we can get on it might not be worth the time.

Thanks!

Is it the entire sixes unit, or is it specialized?? I know it very well and don't be discouraged by the 8%. A huge chunk of it is timber company land and they let everyone rifle hunt in general. It should be an easy one to fill for a doe. Let me know if you have any questions on places to go.

Tailchaser we ended up getting the tags for for both of the boys for the Sixes unit, so if you could could you send me some more information on where to hunt and what company owns the timber so I can get ahold of them? THanks!

Sturgn;

I've hunted the Sixes unit quite a bit, but it's been 6-8 years. I know the area but can't vouch for its current deer hunting quality. Typically, though, if you get some weather you'll get into the deer. And grouse/quail.

The area I've hunted the most is in the area between Powers and the Rogue River near Illahee. It works great, especially for kids, because you can hunt the morning and evening and catch half pounders (15-20 inch steelhead) on the Rogue throughout the day. Get in touch with me and I'll do whatever I can. I actually have the Melrose/North Sixes muzzleloader tag for late November.
