Default We got drawn for the Silves Unit!

My hunting party (all three of us) got drawn for the Silves unit controlled buck hunt. I was surprised we were drawn because we got our first choice in 2000, so we only had two preference points. I've been through the Silves unit but never hunted it. We will be planning several scouting trips over there between now and hunting season. Can anyone give me some general tips on good areas to concentrate on in Silves?

For the deer season we hunt the area between the silvies river and myrtal cr., all the area closer to the silvies river and where myrtal cr. dumps in is a good area. Just dont go off the breaks of myrtal cr. every year thats where people get lost. I have hunted the area for about 12 yrs . off and on and even with my GPS I dont have a good feeling about that side.
You might want to check with the game guys over there, they seem to know where the cougars have hammered the deer the hardest, we talked to one two years ago during buck season and he said this area was wiped out by cougar and we did see a very few doe and fawns but I got a five by four and three of the other four got bucks also in five hot hot days. good luck and leave me one to grow up.

We killed many a large buck in that area back before the drawings. Look on the map for Howard's Meadow by the Delintment Lake Ranger station.coming from the North take the right fork instead of going towards the lake. Go about 3/4 mile and take the old logging road to the right and go back until You come to a meadow. I shot my firs buck there in 1958 and altogether we prob got over 35-40 bucks in that meadow between me and my grandfather and my uncle

Three words for ya "hunt the burn!" The deer love the slickleaf that's growing in there. Kinda like cocain for the critters.

I drew a silvies blackpowder buck tag. Never hunted there either. I intend on one or two scouting ventures. My biggest concern is hunt camp locations. I have a wall cabin tent. Can anyone suggest what general area to camp at?

Lot's of deer in that area. I hunt the southern part, off of US 20, near Riley.

I had my wall tent put up at Buck Springs campsite. Real nice with toliets and running water. You can walk out of camp and hunt.

Lots of road closures in the area make for less spooked bucks.

24/48 thankyou for the reply. I just may have my 14 yr old son go with the youth application for silvies buck rifle since he didnt draw a tag there. Set the tent up then, and leave it for my muzz. season a week after.

Delentment Lake area; definately. Saw one of the biggest bucks I've ever seen in there some years back. A few days after the opener, when the woods calmed down a bit, we saw lots of deer. We got a site in the D. Lake campground, Fishing wasn't bad either, as I remember....
