Default Nehalem Bay

I will be heading to the coast over Labor Day. Any recent reports on how the fishing has been would be appreciated. I could make it down to Garibaldi if that would be a lot better.

Nehalem is slow to spotty. Too early yet for salmon in the Garibaldi area, although have heard of one or two very early fish picked up along the jetty. The CR at Astoria seems to be producing fair amounts, especially if big blue is calm out by the CR bouy.

Fished the incoming AM tide at Wheeler this morning using cut plug. No hits and I never saw or heard of a fish being caught. Beyond slow right now.

Did the family camping trip over at Nehalem last week and as stated the fishing was slow (crabbing was good). I'd just hear about a couple fish caught most days. However, a fresh squirt of fish came in Thursday and there was a nice Friday AM bite just above Nehalem and my 13 year old daughter, who I had to drag out of her sleeping bag for her only morning fishing (teenagers ) got this bright 20lb hen on our first pass. #7 Chart/green dot spinner

Heard or saw of about a dozen caught there that morning. Sounds like another squirt of fish came in on Sunday. If you're fishing near Nehalem and Wheeler and if the trolling isn't panning out, take a bobber rod and some eggs/shrimp and head upriver. You'll find fish rolling in that upper tidewater. That's where I was heading when we were waylaid.

Thanks for the replys. It sounds like it is starting to pick up at least at the jaws. I realize that Astoria is getting hot, but I prefer to avoid the crowds if possible.
