Default Cobra radios at BiMart for $19.99

BiMart has their hand-held Cobra Microtalk FRS/GMRS radios on sale for $19.99 each (after rebate). These are 2 watt radios with an advertized range of five miles. Regular price is $49.99. I don't know anything about radios, but 2 watts seems pretty low. Anyone know about this model, and if a 2 watt radio would be worth having for hunting?

2 watts is half the power of a CB radio, if that gives you an idea.
The FRS radios were a hot item during ski season at Mt Hood Meadows a couple of years ago. It seemed like everybody was using them to keep in touch with their kids, or whomever. A lot cheaper than cell phones, and the ski area was actually renting them out. The only complaint I heard was that the channels were really crowded, since there's only a few of them and I'm guessing 500 people trying to talk within a few hundred acres.
5 miles? Maybe under ideal conditions (which never exist). I'd bet on less than one mile, IMHO.

I might just have Mom run down there and pick me up a set.
Would this sale be all bimart stores?
Only problem I think is they are to small and you lose them if your like a few people I know.

I've used the FRS ones, which are less (1 watt, or 1/2), and talked line-of-sight for over three miles. The 2 watt just comes into play with the GMRS frequencies, I would suspect 5+ miles wouldn't be a problem, although you'll need to be on a clear Eastern Oregon mountain top talking to someone line-of-sight somewhere else.

I decided that for $19.99 each, I couldn't get hurt too much, so I bought two of these today. Also, I learned that today (Wednesday, June 25th) is the last day of the sale.

The hunting group I hunt with all have the same radio, an there is 8 of us and we have talked back and forth at leased 4 miles, and have no proublems with them.
Grizley, Ochoco, deer and elk hunting.
Good radios, and I payed 59.99 for two 4 years ago.
Good Price cant go wrong.
