Default Rogue Report (w/pics)

Anyone fish the lower Rogue this weekend? We will be going over on Thursday and are booked with Shaun Carpenter on Friday for our anniversary. I read in another post that they are supposed to be starting to release more water on the 1st, can anyone confirm this?

That is what the corp is saying they will drop the flow around the 11th of Sept.I hear things have been picking up over there and the guides in the canyon say there are fish all the way thru. Good luck on your trip .We fished the upper Rogue on Saturday and boated 10 summers one was a hatchery 10 lb.Most of the fish were nat's. Pete

Were the summer run fish you caught in the upper river still in good shape? I'm heading down in a week and would like to try to hook into a few if possible.

I haven't fished up there for about a week now but the ones that I was getting were all perfectly chrome, so they should still be in great shape.

One of my dad's friends was over there (I don't know how long he fished), but he said that he only saw 12 hooked and 8 of those were caught by sealions.

Unless you like catching sealions its not really worth it. Got another report from one of my dad's friends. He was only over there for one day and hooked 5. All of them were lost to sealions though.

Well, you know what they say about fishing the prediction. I'm sure glad we decided to go fishing regardless of all the horror stories. We fished last Friday with Shaun Carpenter on the lower Rogue. We had a great time and I would highly recommend Shaun as an excellent guide for southern OR rivers. This was my wifes first Salmon fishing trip so I had her bring some reading material in case she got bored. She never once even reached for her book. There was so much to see on the river. As soon as we anchored we got watch a mink dancing around on the shore, all day long we were visited by Harbor seals who quickly learned to stay at least 50 yds from the boat . We watched crows harrass an Osprey. We fished far enough up river we never did see a Sea Lion. We ended up landing three fish, two adults and a jack. We didn't hear of any other boat that had more than one fish all day, so we felt pretty fortunate. We also had many other line-bumps, and several good take downs that did not stick. My wifes first ever Salmon was 33lbs on the boat and 31.5 on the scale at Jots. I think she is spoiled for ever. Many people fish for several years before breaking the 30lb mark, I know I did.

Feel free to PM me if you would like Shaun's contact info.

I counted about 35 or so trolling below and directly above the bridge. I'm not sure how many were further upriver, I would guess another 10-15 or so.

CM - Shoudn't be too many boats down there. The fall fish are starting to taper off, and the silvers are just starting to show up.

That is a pretty neat trick you taught that seagull.

This was my first time fishing the lower Rogue and I doo not know any names of the holes. It was about a 5 minute boat ride from the dock at Jot's. It was just upriver from where the bankies floss from the South side of the river.

just got back from the rogue fishing out of gold beach along the jetty/bridge area. two days fishing hard. one fish each day for the boat, about 14 pounds ... cookie cutter. generally poor results all around. one guy caught his first fish on the 37th day of a 38 day adventure. same story as all the other rivers, goofed up. stick close to home and fish the cr between portland and st helens. save yourself a 600 mile round trip to talk to a lot of depressed fisherman. don't go by jot's reports. no one was cleaning fish at the fish station by the ramp, what does that tell you.
