Default Information on Desolation unit cow hunt?

Finally this year my dad said i could go on the elk and we actually drew tags.
DESOLATION UNIT NO 1 (#250A1)...
Season Date: Oct 18, 2003- Oct 24, 2003
This is the first time his party will be going on a cow hunt. The season is between archery and bull rifle season. Does anybody have any information on where to start scouting? I know a portion of this unit was burnt about 5+ years ago and I was thinking that area should be pretty good about now with all of the new growth coming back. Any information would be great. Thanks!

-Blake

I usally go in right before Dale and run up the 10 road towards Olive lake. Lots of side roads up there that will take into some nice spots to scout around. I would stay up high or drop into the wilderness at that time of the year.

Killed several bulls in there archery hunting and I am going to side with the masses. If you find the lookout-go down into the canyon opposite the lookout and hunt to 1010 :-) No wilderness, but......

Jump Off Joe is also a good spot!

I have hunted up around green horn mountain in the past, and seen plenty of elk. Olive lake is nice, but there will be quite a bit of pressure up there. Email me and I'll try and steer you to some areas.
