Default home brewers!

Good morning.

Has anyone used FRESH hops (not dried) in a brew, 'cause I'm tempted to throw these right in the pot - -

horror stories ... successes ... wake up I'm brewing at 2:00.

Where the heck did you get fresh hopps - when I used to brew - I tried everywhere - even volunteered to help pick - nada.

Let me know how it works, but I'd think less hops and shorter boil time otherwise your beer will have a green tint

I hope you let us know how it goes. Those don't look quite ready to me though. Ripe hops have the yellow powder visible down near the stem end and the petals start to turn brownish. If you can smell them from a few inches away and its sticky when you squeeze its worth a shot though. I'm growing Cascade which isn't ready yet and that's an early variety. This is my first year growing but all the info I've found says mostly the same thing about readiness to pick.

I was in a race with spider mites, it was now or brown hops full of webbing. They smell gooooood. Actually pretty good lupulin when you break open the big ones.

I used to used fresh hops all of the time, they were my favorite. Awsome flavor and easy to filter out at the end of the boil. I don't brew anymore but I was always able to get fresh hops in Corvallis.

Stickfish, they are easy to grow and make really cool plants. I have a couple different varieties in my back yard. Everybody compliments on their apearance, but I like the way they taste in my IPA!
