Default Mouth of cowlitz

With the water being as low as it is. Would it be wiser to launch at over at Rainier to fish the mouth? I've never launched from gearhart. So I don't know the maze to get down river.

Anyone been down there lately?

I heard that the water is REAL low. Rainier would be a better choice.

If you get there when it isnt low tide you can make it with a pump.I wouldnt try it with a prop.Angle just a bit down river.Say 1 o clock.Stay close to the far side.Really close by the mouth of the Coweeman.
Once you get down to the slough you can cut over just below the big stump off the point close to where the Cowlitz boundary is.You can also go way down, then cut over.I havent tried that approach yet but have seen others doing it.Looked pretty hairy when the tide was low.

When coming back to the ramp, get across fast, and stop quick.I hang to the upper point of the ramp whenever possible, especially loading and unloading. It has a little more water.

Headed out later today, not sure if I'll be there or further down river.White predator, red stripes.Give a wave if you see us.

Can someone translate this into english...?

Hey dude...You can't get there from here....Go straight ahead for 3 lights and pull over and ask someone for directions..

Just kidding...I would like to learn that route in low water also....Can it work at low water in a 22' inboard jet? How about going mach 2?

Saw a guy on a sand bar out there 3 weeks ago...He spent just about the entire day watching others fish as he sat in his boat doing who knows what....I really don't want to be that guy!

Sorry,I thought it was pretty clear, but sometimes the connection between my typing and my thinking gets twisted up in between.
What more do you want to know,I'll see if I can help.
I dont think I would want to try it at extreme low tide in any boat. You would probably be fine an hour or 2 on either side though.
I have a 20 ft Predator w,sj and have had no problems.

If you go down to the launch and take those directions you will understand.

Thedirections for low water are right on the mark!!
the STUMP in aprox 6 feet in diameter...coweeman is accross the river from launch and 1/8 mile down river just above the bridge.

I talked to a guy last week that says you go like hell into the hole at the launch to get over the bar then FULL REVERSE so you don't stack up on the rocks at the launch...

better off using rainier or willow grove and burning the extra gas if your skitish on this low water ramp

Go over the Cowlitz bridge at LOW TIDE..look at the river.

You will understand completely

Fshklr speaks the truth. no place for a prop unless you really wanted to replace a lower unit. Also beware of swimmers at the launch. some of them don't understand that it is a boat launch and will yell at you when you come in. anything less than on step and you wont make it across even with a pump at low tide. be careful.-fd
