Default Compound bow question

I just got given an older compund bow from my step father I need to get it re stringed the string that ison it is down to five strands well we have to drive back to portland sunday and I am worried the bow string might break wile driving I have never had a bow before and I fully intend on getting a new string can someone tell me a general idea on how to get the string off for the drive just to be safe. any help would be great Thank you in advance. rp

Throw it in your trunk or in the back of your truck and head to an archery shop, they have a press and can get it off for you. If it breaks, the worst that will happen you will ruin the limbs.

There is another way and you have to be careful. Get a piece of small diameter rope (1/8") and wrap it around the cable's to the riser of the bow. Then use a small dowl rod or a sturdy object to twist the rope to cinch down the cables. That should provide enough slack to remove the bowstring.

I used a ratchet strap and it worked.... not saying its safe... but it worked
