Default Imnaha Tag

Hope you got the tags you were looking for this year!! I drew my deer in the Imnaha unit , and an anterlerless deer in the n.siuslaw. I've never hunted the Imnaha but cannot wait. Have you ever hunted it before? Any advice??? Please!! Also if anyone lives in the N.Siuslaw unit and has some land to hunt on lest me know, you can have all the meat except for one steak. Thanks

Never hunted for Deer there, but its lovely. We usually camp in the lick creek campground. I hunted there last year for elk, everyone saw deer except for me. I have seen more deer down low in the past. I will be going back this year for Elk.

I hunted Imnaha in the late 80's, but we had success in getting as high as possible (elevation wise - not on the wacky tobacky) at daylight and then working our way down the various "finger ridges" that go down to the snake. I shot my 3x4 that year from 350 yards as it was bedded down on the next ridge over. Take a good spotting scope with you. There were also a lot of grouse around so take a shotgun if they'll be in season while you are there. It's beautiful country. We drove through the town of Imnaha and then headed uphill on some dirt road that headed south all the way to the top. It's been awhile, but I doubt it has changed much. Good luck!

I was born there. Hunted most of my young life in that country. Hunt uphill..the country can be very steep and rugged. You should see deer...pay particular attention to patches of brush and timber on the mostly open slopes. Big bucks will sometimes hide at the base of rimrocks...holding their position for a long time until they can't stand it anymore and take off. Just because you don't see anything right away, don't assume there is nothing there. There are places there where you might want to think twice or three times before pulling the trigger...just because of the difficulty in dragging them out.

The reason I suggested hunting uphill is it's easier to drag them down. For seeing deer the above suggestions are great. That dirt road that winds uphill out of town is one place I used to hunt. Park your truck at the first big switchback, and hunt the draws uphill from there. There will be people camped and hunting from above, but few venture down too far.

Hey thanks guys! I cannot wait to see this country. Any names on the roads out of Imnaha? Can I find a deer outside of the wilderness areas? Will I find the roads and country side relativly easy to get around? I'd like to hunt near the truck but if I have to go into wilds I will for sure.

Have you ever been to this erea before? I see huge bucks there every year but that's during elk season. If it were me I would spend most of my time behind the spotting scope. O ya, make sure your in shape

Oh ya , already running and climbing bleacher. Looking at my maps it looks like the top of the world up there. How big is the town of Imnaha?

When I lived in that area, the town of Imnaha was a general store and a house or two.

I like the "hunt uphill idea" but you can always walk back to the truck and drive it around below your deer and drag it out. It's steep country but there are spots where the walking isn't too bad. I found that by staying on top of those fingers it wasn't too bad. Imnaha hadn't grown at all from a general store and a few houses when I was there. The spotting scope came in real handy in making out deer under the rimrock. They hide behind that sagebrush and sometimes all you see is a horn sticking up that you can't see in your binoculars. Have fun!
