Re: Mckenzie unit bucks
It depends upon what kind of hunting you do. do you road hunt, still hunt or take a compass and topo map and bust into wilderness units to hunt. i use to hunt up there quiet regular. and there are some big boys to be had. "I only trophy hunt," now saying that, i dont mean i only hunt 30+ racks i mean a good 4 point or heavy 3 point will do me fine. I dont like the taste of deer meat that much, so i have it made into sausage and hambuger. i hunted the Mt Jefferson and Mt Washington wilderness area exclusively. i take a compass and topo map and try to get the big ole Mule deer bucks, before they return to their winter range. I usualy spend approx 2-3 days by myself. and i have seen some real big Blacktail and mule deer cross and Mule deer typicial. many blackbear and a lot of Elk. If you like to hunt close by your pickup. There are many private timber lands south of Eugene that support good Blabktail populations. Mosby ceek Drainage use to be good. so was little fall creek. we use to go out on the Islands on the Willamette river south of Eugune with shotguns and drift boats in the extended hunt in November. and get some "LARGE" bucks that way. Good luck!
