Re: gunsmith help...
Try Powder Horn gun shop in forest Grove. The old guy that owns it is kinda a cermudgen(sp)but he knows his stuff. Also, don't expect it back in a hurry. I typically give him 3 months for any project. But he does good work for a fare price even with the wait.

Re: gunsmith help...
I think there is a Smith that works out of the hardware store in down town Molalla. Give the store a call and get the info. as to the days/hours he is in the store. If you had all of the deer stacked up that my father shot with a mdl. 88 243, you would not have room in your living room. Sweet gun. If I know who he sold it to I'd offer them more than a fair price for it.

Re: gunsmith help...
ole farms out his work to Roger, the old gunsmith from shooters. He does immaculate work, but it takes him a coons age to get anything done (he usually is backed up 3-6 weeks at any given time). he has a ton of parts and a machine shop though if that helps.

gunsmith help...
I have an old model 88 308 that was my grandfathers and then my fathers and now mine.
This rifle has a huge sentimental value to me as my grandfather was carrying it when he was killed in a hunting accident. The bullet grazed the stock right behind the bolt before hitting my grandfather. My father shot his fist deer with this rifle. I also shot my first deer with it. (4 point mule in central Idaho).
That being said, the lever action will not open the bolt all the way. I can push the bolt back with my finger.
I am looking for a guy (or gal) that can fix this with all the care this rifle deserves.
I live in Molalla, so I would prefer someone fairly close, however, I am willing to go where necessary for quality work.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Re: gunsmith help...
Tagster,
The guy there in Molalla is named Joe Vering, he use to work out of the ACE Hardware store before they moved. The last I heard he is still working at their old location downtown. I don't have a number for him but he is very well known in the area, you shouldn't have to much trouble getting in touch with him if you ask around. He does great work and really cares about your guns and the way they operate. He's a nice guy, get ahold of him, he'll do a good job for ya.

sled19,
Just for your information. Shooters Mercantile in Salem is out of business. They have a sign on their door referring all of their business to The Sportsmans Warehouse.

Re: gunsmith help...
I guess it's a good thing that I haven't had any problems for a couple of years. Time to find someone else next time I need some help. Thanks for the update Merle.
