Default Here's my first picture effort !!

After much trial and error, I finally got a picture to post ! Here is my spring turkey. Rauly and I worked hard for this bird so I really feel it was a team effort. He did the calling and I did the shooting. We had the Forest Service doing controlled burns, thunder storms, and an 8 hour drive to get to the hunting spot. Couldn't make it too easy so I missed the first shot at 12 yards and hit it on the second while it was in the air. 8.5 inch beard that was worth every bit of effort. Turkey hunting is an absolute blast!

Great pic, Get Bit, and congrats on your bird.

Everyone I know who does it says the same thing you said - that it's a blast. I've got to try it one of these days, but oh man, all I need is something else to chase through the woods.

PS. I notice the action is open on your shotgun during the picture taking. Yes!

All that fog in the background is smoke from the fire and were he shot the bird we had to walk through part of the burning area to get there. What an adventure.

Way to go! By the way, I have that same Benelli shotgun (couldn't pass it up for the price) and I really like it. 3 chokes, 3 1/2 inch mag, vent rib, and a magazine cut off switch all for $260! I've watched hundreds of turkeys being shot on the outdoor channel and it always amazes me that they never try another shot when they miss. I've often wondered if the law down south where they film most of the hunts didn't permit more than one shell! Way to get it on the fly!

Great bird..! My duck hunting partner and I want to hunt spring toms next year but have no idea where to find them in Oregon. We both have hunted them in AR. and are chomping at the bit to hunt them again. Do you have any suggestions as to where one could find public land with birds in Oregon or where that info could be found? BTW..he shoots the same Benelli you have and loves it.

SD,

I have the same frustrations as you do. No public land with birds that isn't overrun with hunters or isn't 8 hours away.Best public area close to Portland is the White River area on Mt. Hood(lots of hunters). Most birds in the state are found in the Roseburg area but almost all private land. There are some areas in the Eastern part of the state that hold birds as well. Just have to start looking to the National Forest Lands. The bird in the pic is from Eastern Oregon on National Forest Land.Hope this helps.
