Default Withdrawls

Turkey season just ended yesterday and goose season doen't start till September, if I get lucky I will draw a Antelope tag in August(not). I'm hurting already. I have tried a quick fix and bought 2 dozen Hard Core full bodies. It worked for a couple of hours. I may have to start snorting Hurculies Red Dot or some IMR 4895 if I get real bad. Who knows maybe even break down and go chase rats with Skein. I think he drew some extra tags for them. Maybe he will loan me a few. Skein do I ned some decoys for them or calls?

What is everyone planning for the summer?

Go buy 100 mice traps and set them in a nearby field. You can get up every morning before the crack of dawn, put on your favorite camo pattern Danner elk stalker boots w/ bob soles, a little face paint, and run your trap line right at first light.

No limit
No regulations

It works for my buddy... ya my buddy, to get him thru the long huntless summer

Rauly,

I'm bias towards 4831 myself. We may just have to put on the wetsuit, a knife in our teeth and dive the Trask for Springers ! On second thought,
scratch that. The sight of my body in skin tight neoprene may get me arrested. Back to the decoys Stew! Can you say - September Goose Season ?

Do like us Salty Dogs do and have "support group" meetings. (Ours are called Tunaholics Anonymous, but we're about enabling, not recovering  )

Get together once a month or so and bemoan the loss of hunting season, trade hunting stories, talk about what you're gonna do next season, etc. It's a great way to meet new folks and exchange ideas. We've had such a blast, we're continuing to hold "meetings" right into tuna season.

Just a thought.

Gawd, Rauly, I'm no better off than you. Last weekend I bought Dave Smith's Breakthrough CD and made my brother stand by the stereo with me and listen to the whole damn thing. Then we slobbered over the Cabela's Waterfowl catalog, and drooled on the page with the Saunders calls until I couldn't read the print any more.

Then my wife had to listen to Dave's calling all the way back from Rogue River. I tried to talk her into the Waterfowl shindig even though it's on her birthday, but she said "Nope, halibut season is open and I need to be out on the ocean!" I can't fault her priorities, but....

Uh, we tuna wannabe's have a 12-step plan to get us through. Is there something like that for duck hunters?

Skein...as pathetic as you guys are...I'd like to help. Next time you get down Rogue River way give me a call (preferably in Sept/Oct and we'll go catch a bunch of steelhead on flies. I know this isn't hunting, but... (maybe we could shoot the fish?) You just need something to get your mind off the problem

Grantspastor, it would be my absolute pleasure to join you. How many days is it until September?

Do you think we could force you into a goose hunt in retaliation?

Well you can always go out and look at the unplanted fields at the duck lakes. Things are late this year and it looks like June 15 is about as fast as it can get done. This is two weeks later than normal for the island (Sauvie). Our place isn't by itself. I talked to a fellow that plants 2 other clubs out there and he says they are shooting for the middle of the month as well.
Just been too much mud to work in. Spring bear is open in Alaska but thats too far to go and I don't like the taste anyway. Now, by not doing that I should be able to convince the better half that we could go on an out of state big game trip to someplace like Colorado. If only I could get her mind off of the idea we need a "powered" crab pot puller for the boat. She's been pulling them just fine for years, why the change now?

Skein and Grantspastor,

Rauly and I can get you into some great September
Goose hunting if you guys will let loose a little spring turkey info ? We just need a spot a litle closer to home. Those 8 hour driving trips arriving at 2am just aren't as easy as they used to be.

Bigshark, I know what you mean about the crab puller. My wife was just lamenting that she didn't have a working dishwasher, and I replied, "Yes, you do." She said, "Do you mean the one still in the box out in the shop?"

Now why would she say a thing like that? Doesn't she know how busy I've been?

Get Bit, I think I've got just the turkey place for you. No kidding. There's a place just a few miles from here where there's a pretty good herd of 'em, and they're not neighborhood pets like the ones around my place. I'll see what I can pull together.

Besides, I still feel as if I owe you guys for putting together that GREAT time last spring with Smith and Cochran. That was a hoot!

YOU ARE IN LUCK!!! I just happen to know a guy that is very good at installing dish washing maschines. He did one this weekend as a matter of fact, and a mighty fine job I might say so. I'll only say his initials here Get Bit.(OOOPPPSSS) He said it was easy. I believe him so when I need a washer installed I'll have him do it. He is a handyman If there ever was one. Snorting Red Dot??? Maybe thats a better way than smoking it! ! As a side note. Hercules no longer owns the powder company. Something about a pyrotechnic incident...

Throw the Cabelas away, and head for the hardcore stuff. Macks prarie wings. Herters( are they still in business?). The good mags.

Work the dog with real live rock doves( the ones you catch from underneath highway overpasses with a salmon net. In my experience it is best to have a designated driver for the gathering of doves. If you have a half rack in the rig, and a cop is wondering" Just what the hell are you two doing!?!" it seems to explain to him what you may not be able to. Maybe the 10 empties and a boxfull of birds in the back of the truck will help tell officer friendly what's up . But have someone to drive for you. makes a good first impression as you stagger down the bank with a net and a bird.).

Go shoot starlings and sparrows.

Mark and the gotta fetch feathers dog.

Flatfish, trust me, I buy most of my mail-order duck goodies from Mack's and I hope they're recovered from the near disaster they had last year with their new computer system. They are great folks to deal with, but my brother is a newbie to waterfowl and since I was at his house we grabbed the only catalog he had.

Rock doves under an overpass with a salmon net, huh? Wow, you do some really fun stuff. I'll have to listen for you on the police scanner.

Rauly, thanks for the tip on Get Bit. It's not just installing the dishwasher, though. It's hanging the new cabinets that will surround it. I keep thinking I can put this stuff off 'til things quieten down, but my wife says I don't ever have an "off-season" so that's not an option.

Oh, well....
