Duck Hunting in La Grande???

Moving to LaGrande. Do any of you Duck hunters know anything about the hunting in that area? Is it all private or are there good places for public hunting? Your help sure would be appreciated.

You lucky guy!!! Yes, there are some opportunities on Ladd Marsh Wildlife Area just a few miles South of LaGrande. There are several ponds in the valley on private land and most people are good to get permission from. In my opinion, most of the ducks are residents, except for a few weeks.

Good luck. Glue or strap your hat down at Ladd cause the wind really blows at times there.

Elk is right about Ladd Marsh. The ODFW has been doing alot of dike building and have an agreement with the city to divert treated wastewater into the area. They also have water rights on Ladd Creek (I think) and are using it to fill some of the ponds. They have been really active in procuring more land and opening it up for hunting. Weds, weekends and some holidays only though and of course only non-toxic shot. Let me know when you get here and I'll point you in the right direction.

Elk, I don't know if you were still here the year the train blew off the tracks at Hot Lake but it was quite a sight to come across the overpass there and look down at box cars laying on their sides.

Sometimes though you can get some great pass shooting in when the birds are flying for all their worth and are suspended in mid air above you. Course they may blow to Elgin before they hit the ground.
