Default North River Sea Hawk Off Shore or Motion Marine ?

Anybody own a North River Sea Hawk Off Shore or Motine Marine Offshore?

I've got an 80k budget and want a solid off shore aluminum boat that cuts through the chop well. I also want a boat with some kind of floatation in the hull. Stabicraft 24 is most likely going to win this battle, but I want to see what else is out there.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

My Limit

I was thumbing through Sea Magazine the other day and saw an ad for Southpaw Aluminum Boats. If you're looking for salty, the 25 sure looks like the ticket! I don't know how they're priced, but they've got my attention.

My brother inlaw just drug one up from Roseburg today. He and another friend of our both work for PP Marine. I have a 21' seahawk and wish I had the cash fro a 26' OS they are sweet . Just my two cents but I like just about all NR's. Stop by Portland Performance Marine and talk to Terry really straight forward guy. Unfortunatly they don't always have an OS there to climb around on. Good Luck

If your looking strictly for an offshore boat, i would venture towards a glass boat. You will appreciate it believe me. Good luck in your choice though, but i would definately keep glass in mind.

My limit,

I'm the one that recommended that you look at the ACB boats from your first forum. I actually own a Motion Marine but not an off shore rig just a 22' fishing machine that I have taken off shore 10-12 miles no problem on very nice days.

I have been inside one of Motion's off shore models and they are sure nice. However, they cannot put enough floatation inside (to my knowldege) to keep it afloat in an emergency. Not like Stabicraft or ACB.

Before my friend bought his ACB, he had quotes for both Alamar(north river) and Motion Marine. Alamar was a lot cheaper but the demo boat that we saw at the boat show in portland was less than impressive. The craftsmanship sucked compared to the demo off shore boat from Motion Marine. But 80K isn't going to get you into an off shore Motion Marine last time I checked.

I can vouch for Motion Marine's quality craftsmanship. The welding, wiring, and inovations they incorporate into their boats are really the reason I went with one. Are their boats worth the money? Absolutely! Will they sink? Absolutely!

Geez Mark 80 grand. I should have kept the price at 6K
I just floated past the red Motion Marine at Garabaldi this weekend and you know my love of M and M sure make good quality boats. It was very nice. What ever you get a must have is the mid ship steering / throttle. And TR-1
by the way how's Third Alarm????

Third Alarm got a carb cleaning and is doing well in my driveway. The only problem is now I will have three boats at my house. With trying to buy this new off-shore boat and sell my 21 Arima I don't know when I will have time to spend with the little Arima. It may have to go sooner than I thought.

If I get a boat where I don't need my suspension seats, I'll make your buddy a good deal on them. : )

As far as glass vs. aluminum boats I think I already have the most seaworth fiberglass boat that I can tow with my F150 in my 21 Arima Hardtop. I was going to by a Sea Sport 24 Explorer, but they weigh about 7500 pounds loaded. That would be tough on my truck.

Should I just keep my Arima? I've only got 150 hours on my Honda 130 and the boat looks brand new. I just want more space in the cabin area and a deeper v hull for long halibut runs. The Arima is great at staying stable in chop, but I want something that can run through the chop faster with minimal bumps. The Arima is incredible if you have patience on those long 2-3 hour rides to the Ranch. I've never felt uncomfortable in it regardless of weather conditions. It's purely a speed, comfort and space thing for me along with some newly secured financial resources.

I'm meeting with the owner of Motion Marine tomorrow to see what he can build me in the 80k range. He said that an Offshore 24' with a diesel is possible at that price.

My other option is a 24 Stabicraft. I looked at the ACB boats but they are over 100k for a 23 footer. Stabi will keep me closer to 80k.

The problem is everything tells me I might need to buy a bigger truck and then get my Sea Sport if I want the comfort, space and speed I want.

Help!

Those Southpaws look sweet but I could not find out how much they weigh. It sure looks bigger than 25'.

Sounds good keep me posted on the seats. M and M Mark's a nice guy treated us real good when he made the work boat. You've got my vote. NEW CREW CAB I can't believe a guy like you would sell out for an Alumi boat. That's like me buyin a Glass boat. It don't make any sense. I'll see what my Lt. has been looking at he's got the Big Alumi Boat Bug. See if he's found any deals.

Plum Crazy,

Yes, it is killing me to buy an aluminum boat but these weight restrictions are real. I either crush this boat deal with my wife by purchasing a new truck and then a new boat or I just adapt and overcome.

I'll choose the later, because my wife scares me!

Yes, I'll keep you updated on the seats. I've got a little over 2k into them and used them twice. They are incredible. The only way I will sell them is if they won't fit in whatever new boat I get. In that case I would be glad to save your friend some time by telling him where to get all the right parts, bases, swivels etc to make the Glyde Rydes a dream on his boat! They are nothing short of amazing! The are better than anything on the market becuase they are entirely made of heavy stainless steel. Not like the ones that you pay 1000 each for and they rust.

I've got to run 10-8, Peace Out!

RV 10 Pilot,

After getting the quote from Motion Marine on their 26 Offshore model I don't think I will need your help pulling anything. $114,000 with Dual Honda 150's. I told the owner Mark that 80k is my limit and he's going to see about building me a smaller offshore that would stay within my limit, but still be equipped how I want it. Even the 22' Motion Marine boats are pretty big. 7' wide floors!

We will see what happens.

You really need to ride in all the boats you are considering. I would bet that you will find that extra weight in the Sea Sport will pay dividends in the ride you are seeking. I would hazzard to guess your Arima will be a close match to the others you are considering. Aluminium is really not the best product if you are only doing or mostly in salt water. I hear your truck issue, but do you really want to scrafice ride. With 80k you sure should be able to find something that meets most of your needs. Good luck. Motion Marines are great boats as are North River. Maybe you could find a good used 3/4 ton to just tow the bigger boat.

I agree. When it comes to ride quality, heavy = good.

Motion Marine if you want the best Aluminum. Glass boats, I would go with a glacier bay cat. Twin outboard's, another boat to look at is max cat out of hebo.

Halli fishin, everyone had to leave but us. verry stable, limited roll, well built.

How are you Mav. ?

With 80k to spend to certainly have many options. I have owned aluminum boats and fish the salt almost exclusivly. We went to glass and would not consider going back at this time. Wit your budget I would think you may want to look at Stripers as well.
