Default When is the waterfowl festival?

When is it? I need more callers. I need more camo. I need more lab puppies. I need to hear a good loud highball.

Mark and the dog who wishes every day was duck season.

I've been curious about that for years. Are you talking about the one down at Malheur or a local one?

The one in St. Helens. Mass duck calling hysteria on Saturday( I got a buck that Reeder wins the duck contest this year). And the kid and Dave Smith honking on short reeds on Sunday.

" Gee Honey, I thought I had lost my other callers! That's why I got these new ones here...Where did you find them? In the garage huh..Right where I hang them all the time huh? What couch? Well, why do you think I should sleep on the couch? It was an honest mistake that anyone could make for 3 years in a row...Alright fine...C'Mon dog. You, me and these new callers are camping in the living room tonite....."

The above actually happened once. Then at 3am I woke up( musta been that bar in my back from the looks good, but sure is uncomfortable couch) sat on the edge of the not so comfy couch, took a DEEP breath, and let out a highball that hurt my ears. The next to the next door neighbor woke up! After that, I went back to sleep, ears ringing....

Mark and the moving up to a single reed dog.

Flatfish,

You mean to tell me that she made you sleep on the couch and when you woke up because your back hurt you let out a highball that woke up your neighbor two doors down? That's hilarious. Sounds like something I would do. Turn that one night on the couch into a vigil. Fight fire with a nuke. Up the ante. Take it to the next leve.

Yep. That is how it went. But now when I get a new call( insert decoys, waders, or what have you), she may give me the silent treatment, but I sure as heck sleep in a bed.

My back hurt for 4 days after that nite. It was worth it.

Now don't misunderstand and assume things about my wifes temper. The first year I came home with ascessories we were so broke it was sad. Then I drop 2or 3 Bens on duck stuff. The second year was much better, but it still irked her a bit. The 3rd year, my 1st year at the festival actually,( the 2 other years were Bouy 10 trips from Bend.I can vouch that it is simple to drop 500 bucks between 2 days of fishing and a couple hours at Sportsmans Warehouse. )and I walk in with another batch-o-calls was just gas in the fire...Or icing on the cake. Depends on your perspective. So by the 3rd year of necessary and productive duck ascessories, she got a little excited.

Mark and the dog.

1pump, here's a LINK to the waterfowl festival website.

Ya, flatfish I can relate. At $125-$200 per acrylic or acrylic impregnated wood (Keat's) call it can get a lil bit spendy (Hmmm, which will it be this year, the acrylic Strait Meat Honker or the Sauders Traffic?).

Yup! June 21,22. I'll be there again. "Just The Pits" BBQ's. I'll have my booth again with cookers/art work, all designed around waterfowl. ANY IFISHERS need to come buy for a visit. Please identify yourself so I know who you are. Discounts to all IFISHERS. I'll have a small pit set up in the camp area in the evenings if anyone cares to throw on a piece of meat/burgers/??
Come visit and have fun, and meet some new folks.
Got to hunt with the Affolter Gang on the Columbia last season. Had some great shots over Guthries Custom Widgeons. "Columbis River Decoys". OMYGOD what a shoot.
I swear the birds almost broke their necks coming in so hard. It was funny. Never had a chance to hunt over Great Decoys before. Will never forget it!
See ya at the show.

Did you hunt with Don? I worked with him for a while and can vouch that he is a fantastic artist. When I heard he was making decoys, I knew they would be spectacular.

Don wasn't here the weekend I was up there. Hunted with John A and Ernie. Top notch guys for sure. All around. TDB's/Pod's/Harley Dog/Don's Deks, John's Duck Shack. Malt-O-Meal for breakfast everymorning. If that don't don't make ya regular, nothing will. It was unbelievable. Of all the duck hunting I've done in my life-and deer/elk/pigs, that was a "TRIP". Almost sexual.ha
Look me up at the show. I was there last year.
I have the booth right at the entrance. Just The Pits.
See ya

I took the wife and kids last year and had a great time. My two boys (6 and 8) got to build a wood duck box, I got to check out some new stuff and it was fun watching the retriever contest. I am considering entering my pup in it this year.

If you go, be sure to get the discount coupon off the link above.

bllelk bring the kids they will have a good time and they will be doig kid seminars for duck calling plus it willhelp smooth things over after you buy some new toys  Flatfish I feel your pain, after my wife saw my hardcore decoy bill and that was just the first one. Bring your wife to hear the guest speaker on Saturday. She was on the cover of DU this year. I had my wife read the article and now she is going to come out with us this year. Now I to buy a new gun. See you all at the show.

With the excited energy that only comes with waiting for the waterfowl festival( or opening day), the dog has penned a poem.....

"Kill... Kill... Kill... The greenheads"

Dad wrote a poem too...

" Tigga tigga tigga ga tat tat wat wat wat....( deeeeeep breath)....WAAAAAAAAAAt WAAAAAAAAt WAAAAAAAt WAAAAAAt WAAAat WAAat WAaat Waaat wak wak wak wak...tigga tigga tigga. gut gut gut gut tigga waaak.. wak wak wak wak..." . You get the picture.

See ya'll there. I'll be the one in jeans and a baseball cap.

Mark and the Rich n Tone dog.

P.S. There aint nothing wrong with being a bit of a redneck. Or a little boy.

Wak, Your right. Much to my disappointment, I can't be at the show in person this year. My BBQ building business has gone off the scale. I have so many orders for custom wood pits that have to be completed by the 4th, that I have to stay home and work long hours. Bummerrrrrrrrr.
I did donate a 30" custom "Flying Duck's Fire Ring System, with 360deg. swing grill. Not sure if it will be in the auction or what. Try to find John/Ernie Affolter. John has some of his "old" wood Columbia River Duck Boats on display next to the camp area, I think the Fire Ring will be there.
Sorry I couldn't make it there in person to do my booth thing again.
If I continue to grow the business, I'll get some help next season. Then maybe I can go have some fun.
It's a great show. Have fun for me.
Thanks
