Default Let's Talk Prop's

I have an 03 Vmax 225 currently have a 13 3/4 x 21 alum and would like to go to a Stainless but am only finding 13 3/4 x 19 in black.

Anyone have suggestion on sizing for a Vmax 225? Would like a little better low end and a shine blade.

Thank you in Advance for your help.

You'll need to share a little more information about your performance. How many RPMs and what speed do you get at WOT? How is your trim performance (can you make the boat porpoise at full trim)? What hole (height on transom) is your motor set at?

I really like the Merc props and they work great on Yamaha motors. I'm running a 21P Tempest Plus on my Merc 225. Great hole shot and fantastic top end (60 GPS on a 21' Tundra). It sounds like a 19P Tempest Plus or a 19P or 17P Rev 4 or a 19P Offshore might be worth trying.

If you really want a hole shot that will knock your socks off you could try a High 5 in 21P or 19P. Your top speed might suffer by 1 or 2 mph but probably would be comparable to what you get with aluminum. The only drawback is poor reverse performance.

All of the above are pretty readily available on ebay for about half of retail.

MY boat is a 22 x 7 sled. Trim is only off the motor

I am not looking for a 60mpg boat just want a good holeshot when having 5 in the boat and a 48 to 53 topend. I don't know my rpm wide open.

I know my current top end is 53gps.

Before re-propping you really need to know your WOT rpm's. It's really important to keep the WOT rpm's within the recommended range, even if you rarely run at that speed.

My guess is that switching to a 19P Tempest would be a great move, but be prepared to try a few different props and keep track of your performance changes.

Look on line at Seattle propeller. great site and service. I bought a 133/4 rapture for my 115 evinrude from them. $250. They sold me the right prop the first time.

You need to know what your boat's RPM is at full throttle and what redline is for the motor. If you aren't making redline you are currently over propped. If you exceed redline you are under propped. Look in your owners manual for the recommended redline.
