Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
I am looking for an Archery Hunting partner for this years Elk season.I'm not an expert but am very proficient with my equipment. I know what my max range is and know what shots to pass on. I also know the trajectory and speed of my bow and arrow setup. I spend a fair amount of time at Kutch archery on the 3-D range.
I can call and shoot. I have a camper, ATV (only for retrieval of game) a nimrod pack that I can stay out overnight with. Currently I don't have the equipment to pack in for a hunt greater than 3 days. I could pack in one morning hunt the evening next day and next morning pack out the third afternoon. I have gps and topo and satelite imagery. I try and keep myself in good shape. I don't drink at all while in Elk Camp an EVENING drink or two doesn't bother me but I avoid alcohol due to it's tendancy to dehydrate a person.
Meat is evenly split between those involved in calling shooting etc. Preferably 2-3 hunters and shooter keeps the horns obviously
I will be able to hunt almost the whole archery season. If someone has room in a group, I prefer smaller groups 2-3 archers I will adapt. If you have a honey hole that you're hesitant to share I would be willing to let you hunt blacktail on my private property in WA in exchange for an invite to your honey hole. I have Gauranteed opportunity at does and good chance at 8pt. bucks in November. I would also be willing to play tour/hunting guide on Kodiak Island in September of 2004 for Coho. Food and Lodging would be your responsability but I could get you into fish until your arms ached. I grew up on the Island and know it well.
I have fished with several Ifish members and they can vouch for the fact I don't give up places or techniques to anyone not even their friends unless I'm given the green light to say something. I have confidence I can find elk but would prefer a 2 or 3 hunter setup. Group hunting presents an element of safety someone else knows the area you went into.
If interested e-mail kodiakfisher@earthlink.net and we can get together and talk bowhuntin or shoot up at Kutch archery.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
Hi kodiakfisher , I'm in Aloha and a longtime stick flinger. I'm taking most of archery season off this year . I'm planning a week or so on the east side depending on what tags I draw. I mostly hunt the North Coast area, but always like to explore new places. We should get a shoot together with fellow ifishers so we can all meet.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
Excellent intro Kodiak. I hunt quite a bit of the season myself and might be able to take you out and show you a couple of honey holes on the coast. I have not hunted them much in the last few years but they are gated access points with really great hunting behind them.
I might try and get out here in the next couple of weeks to sneak and peek in those areas and will drop you a line if they look promising. 3 point or better areas with a good amount of mature branch bulls. Do you have a mountain bike?

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
I may have most of the season off as well. I have a hunting partner, but he's on a pretty short leash and can't get away much so maybe we can hook up and get after 'em. I've got a elk spot in the coast range and a pretty good deer area out east.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
Thanks for the replies, I have been blessed with being included in a family rifle hunting party. The leader of the group is about 60 years or so and is darn hard to keep up with on the mountain. Him and I always end up on the same ridge at the same time or push a canyon from opposite ends without much communication. It is always a pleasure to hunt with him and his family This year I'm going to give a go at archery.
Crayfin, Myles
I have access to a mountain bike and would be willing to assist with satelite maps or topo maps I can make them all myself. I can also upload waypoints to most GPS units. I'm high tech for sure but this allows me to be really efficient while scouting. Lets hookup I'm here in Hillsboro.
Myles,
Anytime you would like to get together and scout let me know. I have been to your house you gave me a pheasant skin last year. You were out deer hunting when I came by, how did you do?
I have a spot along the 26 that I have called a bull from that I would be willing to share I know that area fairly well. It also is an area best acessed with a mountain bike.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
Last deer season I found out two things.
1. I should have practiced more.
2. I should have checked my scope.
Missed two shots.
I've never been to Kutch, let's meet one day and go there.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
KF - I wish you luck in finding a good hunting partner. The bond that forms between hunting partners is very strong. I made a friend in 4th grade and we were good buddies all thru school, we lost contact for a while when he was in the Air Force and I was in college but we soon regained contact and are still best of friends. We have been hunting together for a long time and I couldnt imagine spending my most valued time with somebody else.
We can take off on a hunt and not make contact on the radio all day and end up at the same spot at the same time at the end of the day. This last summer we were going to meet on a long ridge we had never been on. When I got there I pulled out the radio to see where he was, and was about 50 feet away taking his pack off so he could call me.
Knowing how fast your partner covers ground, how well he spots, his energy level, etc...... all come with spending time with each other. I hope you find a quality partner to hunt with.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
I am super green (literally this seasons growth) at bow hunting but am eager to learn.
If you are interested in a 3D course hunting partner, please let me know.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
I met my current bowhunting partner over the internet. I live near Sandy, and he lives in Canyon City. We got to B.S.ing about elk and places we hunt and found out that we hunted alot of the same areas.
We met during the summer and got to know each other and discovered other things we had in common. Like having former hunting partners who screw you over by bringing new people into an area you've been hunting for years!
We've taken two 6x6's and one 5x5 the last two years, and have become best friends.
Until 4 years ago I didn't figure there was any need to have a computer, but you never know!
Good luck in your search! sliverpicker

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
pdxkevin,
I would be willing to 3-d shoot with you anytime.
Have you hunted Elk at all before? I would have to guess about 10% of the Hunters get about 80% of the elk and to get into that 10% is a whole bunch of work.
Getting in shape physically
Practice shooting
Research, Internet, topo, satelite, fish and game
actual scouting checking for old/new sign
Practice shooting
Practice calling
more scouting with bino's or spotting scope (verfying what you already know)
more practice shooting
Lastly know when not to shoot
Get everything as scent free as possible
Now lets go elk hunting
Now we might be ready to kill an elk because you have to try and keep your wits about you when you finally get the chance. Easier said than done. I have some areas scouted but some others have mentioned taking me to some other spots I may not know about if this is the case I would not give any of those locations to anyone unless given the okay by the person who was kind enough to share. FYI anytime someone shows you a good elk spot you would be very wise not to tell anyone especially your best friend or relative. :depressed: I have built up a little bit of credit for keeping secrets and this is credit that is hard to come by.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
Thank you for the offer. Sounds like fun.
I have only been hunting a couple years now. That was all rifle hunting too. Though each year I get closer and closer. Closest was about 20 feet from two cows while rifle hunting with a general season tag. Had my first chance to fill my elk tag, but felt the shot would have been too rushed to make a clean kill and passed on a nice one.
I come from a fishing family and am soaking up as much knowledge as I can about hunting.
There are few things in life that get my blood pumping than that of being out hunting on a crisp morning, seeing then following sign, and the suddenness of a strong breeze from elk close by.
Since moving to the PNW, I have yet to miss a single sportsmen's show ~ first Saturday ~ open to close. It's a great place to pick up tid bits of knowledge others may take for granted.
I recently downloaded the latest software upgrade for the GPS, then tweaked some 1,800 way points. (I was home sick anyways)
From Boyd Iverson to Wesley Murphey, from John Higley to Don Laubach, I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. I really like Boyd Iverson's take on still hunting.
I take the most recent aerial shots I can find on the net with me each time I head out.
A friend took me hunting to one of his good spots, he harvested the biggest buck I'd ever seen, then saw the other matching buck. Normally, we don't get a chance to hunt together. I haven't been back to that spot because I said I wouldn't. I may not have filled many tags, but I do have my word.

Re: Archery Hunting Partner Wanted
just got the bow checked out  Everything is ready to go except the site. It will work but has broken fiber optics. I will get a new site set this summer.
I just picked up four carbon arrows for target practice. I can't wait. They are the three fletched, Beman Carbon "Hunter" 330-16 with a 65 grain target tip using a 35 grin adapter. I like the feel of them. They end up with the same length and weight as the broadhead arrows. They are of a smaller diameter than the hotter sellers but from what I have gathered they should be a little more durable and accurate.
Saturday morning, I am going to head over to Archers Afeild for the 90 minute intro course than on to the 3D courses...
As with most everyone, life has been busy these past couple weeks. Now I am getting a breather so I wanna get out and see how they fly!!!

You know what they say . It is easier to find a wife than it is to find good hunting partner.
Good luck on your search.
