Wow! does the tab button always do that? I guess I should'nt have clicked on "continue" after I hit the the tab. Oh well live and learn. Anyway on with the story.
I go on this fishing and networking trip to Southern Chile. Having spent 1 month in Chile the year before on my honeymoon olny fishing 2 days, but seeing lots of realy nice water and beautiful country. I spent the next 11 months planing a trout fishing trip the next fall (here) for 1 month. (Nov. 20 - Dec 20 ) I fly to Santiago where my brother, who lives in Chile meet's me at the airport. We drive to his home in Vinya Del Mar where I rent a pickup and we prepare to go on a 21 day road trip to the Rio Baker in southern chile. What a great adventure lay ahead! My brother dosent fish much but does speak fluent spanish so he was invaluable as a companion ( my spanish is shaky at best.)Well we drive and take a ferry for 5 days to reach our southermost destonation. The first 16 hours were paved but after that it was gravel 1 1/2 lanes wide. (the southernmost end of I5) What a drive!!!!!! through some of god's most beautiful country! Chile is an amazing country. And the people are wonderful. always friendly and helpfull. many times shortly sfter meeting someone we would find ourselves in their home drinking wine, eating and talking for hours. We stayed in the local version of bed and brakfasts, usualy a plain large house that the owner lives in and rents out rooms by the night. Very simple, but affordable lodging. Our first night at the Rio Baker was spent at a flyfishing lodge with nice cabins and a guide service. The next morning I went out fishing for monster trout with the guide from the lodge. We had a great day catching large rainbows on woolybuggers (2-10# fish) The next day we move to a campground just up river from the lodge. We have the place to ourselves The "campground" is just a farmers pasture along the river where they have made a few fire pits and have an out house. Well we set up camp and then go off fishing with the lodge guide again. we get out to the first spot and I assemble my fly rod only to disvover that it is broken in the but section ( like from a car door) and silly me I had brought only one fly rod with me to Chile and the nearest fly shop was 6hr away. What to do, what to do? Luckly I did have a couple of spining rods with me and some hardware and corkies and yarn. So spining gear it was for the next 3 days. Those trout loved corkies and yarn!! It wasnt flyfishing but I made the most of it, catching many large trout. I was able to buy a new fly rod on our way back north in Coihaique where we stayed and fished for another week befor returning to my brothers home, and then my return home. All in all an AWWSOME trip!!! But the lesson to be learned here is if you are going halfway around the world flyfishing take a spare rod or two. and if things dont go according to the plan make the most out of what ever you have.
Now for my question, I am going to the williamson riverfor 3 days in acouple of weeks. I have never fished there but I have heard good things about the fishing there. Any info would be great. I am thinking that the large klamath lake rainbows will be in the river at that time ( sept 6-9) and should be likeing streamers and hoppers ? aaaI am thinking about floating in my raft from Collier park to where I am staying at the williamson river resort. does any one know this section ? also after that I will be staying at the twin lakes resort by wickiup and crane prairie res.for a couple of days looking for some good fly fishing. Any info on this area would also be a big help! Thanx in advance for the info. and good fishing to all! Tom.
