Default Tuna report 8-19

More like a lack of Tuna report. Where did all the jumpers go? Went to the approximate spot that Marty mentioned, about 7 miles east of the 61 spot. There were quite a few commercials working the area, lots of birds and a transition from 56 to 58 deg water. We trolled around for a while but nothing. Headed NW and found some 61 deg water with a nice edge go 58.5 Got 2 on in about 1/2 hour and thought it was going to be a good day, but only had one other drive by. Briefly and I mean briefly saw a few jumpers. Spoke with Nalu, I think he was out by Tuna town, he only had 2.

OH man...it is not exactly what I was hoping to hear.

I think a salmon maybe in order.

I sure appreciate your report...a million thanks.

Yep, thanks for the report, Glen. You just saved me most of a couple hundred bucks. :depressed:

Good luck to all the 'Dogs who venture forth tomorrow. Hope you fill the boxes up!

My pleasure guys, one thing that I forgot to mention was that the stomach of the one we boated was almost empty. A few well digested small baitfish. Most of the other fish I caught this year came up spewing small baitfish and squid on the deck. Maybe they were feeding by moonlight and waiting until tonight to feed again? Tried trolling fast, slow, clones, fishtraps.

Glen, thanks from me also, for the report. I was curious if you got out of the fog out there? What was your visibility on the tuna grounds?

Sunday for me, possibly salmon like Dan is talking about?

I was with Nalu...Ended up with two...we were just short of tuna town, I think, but about where I was on the charter Thursday...125/45 or thereabouts...we had a tuna researcher with us collecting stomachs over the past two days...many were empty. one had a huge fish with a pointy nose. Could've been a hake before the acid hit it..12-13 inches long.
Weather out there was good...windy in the ayem, but fell off in the afternoon and it was well out of the fog. Very few birds out there, but a bunch in closer.

(Some boats fishing chinook about 8 miles out caught limits and reported releasing dozens (as in about two) of hatchery coho)...Depoe Bay...

Good luck to everyone tomorrow...it was slim...But fun. As Nalu pointed out, if you go out and catch two chinook it's a good day. We caught two 20-25 pound albacore and thought it was slow...go figger.
