Default CR steelhead help

My father and I are going fishing tomorrow on the Columbia. He thinks we should target steelhead instead of Chinook but we've never fished for steelhead in a big river. Can someone give me some pointers on how to target them(what to use, where to go sort of stuff)? We'd like to stay within 10 miles or so of St.Helens if possible. Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert but, try fishing X-4 or an X-5 Flatfish along the washington side. 15-25 ft. of water, 3 ft. dropper 5 ft. leader, some will tie off to wingdams. Good luck

What tysdad said. Ive had good luck with the U20 red/black dots. And if the currents flowing good uses a spinner on a rod. Brass red works good for me.

Look for that sharp ledge, that can be a hwy for fish. Water that drops from 15-20ft to 40-50ft.

Try a number 3 rainbow spinner with green tees, or an f7 hot orange flatfish. Look for shelves/edges, and I like 12 to 15 feet of water.
