Default central oregon turkeys

Hello,
I'm a recent transplant from the valley and I would really like to find some birds locally. I live in Redmond and would love some information on birds in the area or near by. General locations or private land is always a bonus. I also would be going solo so a huntin buddy would not be turned down. I dont want to have to cut any body part off like the climber in Utah, (How amazing is that guy!) Thank you in advance for all and any info.

scutz, I was over in the Maury mts scouting for Elk two years ago, and I heard turkeys in the morning... neat area, just south of the town of Post. Be sure to stop in at the store and check out the racks that are hanging in there, awesome..

One of the longest established populations in Cen Ore can be found in the Squaw Back/ Green Ridge area east of the Metolius.

I know of some birds up above Prineville Reservoir. Farther in, the Ochocos has a small population, but it is growing. White River is always north of ya. There are turkey scattered all around the east foothills of the Cascades the whole length of the state, just have to find them. Good luck.

Scutz (What does that mean, anyway???)

I just live in Salem so the drive to Central Oregon is not bad at all. I would love to hunt some turkeys with you. Let me know if you are interested.

Scutz,
Go north on hwy 97 to the Dufur, Tye Valley area.
Take the road out of Tye Valley which goes past the fair grounds you will wind up on public lands
The area is hunted but there are good numbers of turkeys in the area. (a place to start until you get to know the locals and you can start hunting private land)

I have hunted Elk in the Maury unit and have seen a lot of Turkeys. The population seems to be getting larger. The first couple of years there were none and the last couple of years they are all over the place. I have seen them in the area of Arrowwood point. Good luck and if you see any elk let me know, I hope to get a cow tag for that unit this year. I struck out last year on the draw.
