Default Best "no bark" shock treatment!

I finally fixed it!

Kilchis drives me crazy every time I put on shoes or boots to go fishing. He barks and whines and sings like mad, and it is maddening!!!!

I have tried everything! Or, so I thought!

Last week, I filled a spray bottle and set it next to the boot closet.

When I went to go fishing, he went nuts. ONE TIME I said, "No bark!"

He did not stop, so I grabbed the bottle and gave him a good spray.

He stopped! He cowered a bit, but he stopped.

NOT ONCE since then have I had to go past, "NO BARK!"

I take it in the car with me now, too... In case he goes nuts at the dogs being walked along the roadway. All it takes is one "No bark" and he stops!

Just as long as he knows that bottle is around, he is good!

YAY! Try it! It works!

He cowers a bit, and I've never understood that about Kilchis, (He's NEVER been hit) but it's better than barking!

Jen can you delete the post of yours because if my wife reads it she will get the squirt bottle out and I am going to be one wet guy.

Just water! Really! He is a very sensitive pup. Don't know how he got that trait.

It worked on me too when you wanted me to shut up on Pete's boat.

Heck I can't even look at a spray bottle in my house now without making a little piddle.

and Jennie is a good aim.

Jennie, this is no bull! My son taught our barking Lab to whisper. When he would bark everyone would whisper back to him "quiet". He caught on and once in a great while he would slip and almost look embarassed. Funny thing was he would sit at the door and whisper bark. NO one could hear him and he got very frustrated. Once in a while we would get him to bark loud just so he could have at it. Loved that dog but he was killed by a car way too soon.

My dogs always learned the whisper trick. kilchis knows it too.

My dog lives on the river and swims multi times daily. He loves water, but not sprayed at him.

It's weird.

Funny how that works huh? My last two "old dogs" (as opposed to the two new young pups we are training) both LOVED the water. Both would run down the ditches in the middle of the winter rather than use the driveway. The first would even run and drop his head with his mouth open until he gagged on the water he scooped up. Then he would do it again. Jump in the river, roll in mud puddles, bite the sprinkler, all good fun.

But...get the hose out for a nice cool bath in the hot summer? ARRGGGGGGHHHH ...let me outa here....you're killin' me...what did I do to deserve this mistreatment?

Training these two new pups is a real challenge. We've never done two at a time. It's just like kids, when they get together it's like they feed off each other. Keep the tips coming! Not sure we want to suppress the barking (they are herd/guard dogs after all) but teaching them what and when to bark would lead to more sleep at night! Staying home is the big training priority right now. The older (1 year) one was fine and just hung out with "old dog" until we got his full sister (about 5 months now) then he decides he needs to take her on some adventures. One trip to dog jail, one missing for 2 hrs and returning and one phone call/pickup from some neighbors later....it's incarceration (chain/leash) until the invisible fence/collar training is complete. Kind of a waste to have heard dogs that are tied up huh?

Now if you could just do something about his annoying glowing eyes he would be the perfect dog!

Snapset, I used a flyswatter (clean) in the car. They would end up laughing hysterically trying to avoid the inefficient flyswatter and forget what they were fighting about.

For some reason, our dog WILL NOT bark..even when you get him all excited and play fetch, he dosen't make a sound...The only time her barked is when we first got him, he was outside, and heard somthing he didn't like and barked the loudest bark I have ever heard. Other than that he's really quiet
