Default May 15th deadline nears

If you plan on applying for a controlled hunt May 15th is the deadline. If you wait till the last day you will stand in line with several other people.

I did some scouting on Sunday back east and am not sure I want spend a year hunting some ground I just looked at for the first time on Sunday. Didnt see any deer but believe they may possibly could be there.

I know what you mean about scouting and wondering if is worth a years hunt. I have also been scouting, but wondering if the animals I'm seeing will still be there in the fall. Aww, wouldn't it be great to be independently wealthy where you could spend a few weeks prior to the season checking the area out to find those animals when you want them. Well if not wealthy, how about retired.

I made it down last night to apply for some hunts.

I put in for a deer and elk tag that I have no chance of getting, when I round the decimals to the nearest whole number I get ZERO chance :depressed: :depressed:

I feel like I am betting on a single number on the Roulette table in Vegas and the dial doesnt stop spinning till the drawing in June. But I still figure I have a better chance at drawing these tags than I do of hitting the powerball.

Almost waited too long. 27 bucks and 30 minutes in line later, but I got them in. Antelope - W. Beattes Butte, buck deer - Beattes Butte, antlerless deer - Willamette, addtl. deer - Willamette, elk - Pine Creek and bighorn sheep - Sheep Mt. Please let me draw something. I need to get back east again.

Rogue - We were real tempted to roll the dice and see what we could find in that area we looked at. The reason we didnt is because that piece of public ground is cut in half by 2 hunting units and we had to get a tag for either the east or west half of the ground. That alone was a tough decesion but we would have probably gone with the east portion as it looked a little better and there was a few thousand acres that we could get away from the roads by climbing thru 4 or 5 levels of rimrock.

We talked to a local Federal employee when we were scouting and was told their are a lot of hunters in the area and for the last several years the hunters have not done very well in the area because it has been very dry.

We saw no deer when we were there but were told they are normally in the fields along the creek/road in the morning and evening. The deer seem to disappear as the summer goes on because it gets pretty dry in the area we were told.

We applied for a Steens Mountain hunt with no preference points. We want to hunt big bucks, filling a tag means nothing to us, and I have heard there are some dandys in that unit.

Good call.

25% of tags go to the "random draw" maybe you'll get lucky!
