turkey fans
And I'm not talking about all of us who like them so much...
If a fellow had, say, enough tail fan/beard combinations that his spouse made him get a separate freezer, what kinds of things could be made from them?
Anyone have creative ideas beyond the standard wall mount?

Re: turkey fans
well you could make a really nice table skirt for the kitchen table and if you wanted with the beards you could use them as the little doylie things on the fan chains. or put them on a broom handle and make a type of broom to hang with your mounts.

Re: turkey fans
hmmm? native american headdress?... make a suit out of them to wear yourself when hunting, that would probably draw lots of hens to you which in turn would bring in lots of the really big toms? ......

Re: turkey fans
Kripes Bill! tail fans? freezers are made to hold meat, fish, bait and the occasional body. But tail fans? I say whoa!! You think your wife is gonna allow you to decorate the homestead with whatever scheme you concoct with your collection of feathers? That oughta go over as well as that italian lamp from " A Christmas Story" Methinks you're wearing the wrong kind of face paint while out skulking for toms and the fumes are beginning to eat away at the brain cells.

Re: turkey fans
I too was collecting fans and beards. I had a nice lil stack (5 toms worth). One day i came home to find that my bird dog had decided to take care of my pile. She ate the little bit of flesh left attached to the fans as well as the beards,, what a mess. id. p.

Re: turkey fans
Well, seeing that you love to hunt and you love your wife I think the best of both worlds is to combine them.
With the waist band of an old pair of jockey shorts (boxers will do) attach the tail feathers securely and you should be able to make a nifty skirt that will make your wife the talk of the town (make sure you have enough fans to go all the way around). Also if you can remember back to those old days of summer camp where we made those slick key chains out of braided nylon you should be able to weave those beards into a slinky pair of beard net stockings.
Of course at this point you will not only be the talk of the town you will be the talk of the Salem hospital.

Re: turkey fans
Would any of you "Turkey Guys" be willing to give a rookie fly tyer one of your unused tails? I took a tying class this past few months and can make some great flys with them. Let me know if you have any I can take off your hands! I's be willing to trade you some of the flies I made with them. (Although, I can't guarentee they'll catch anything  )
Email me at jeepmcse@yahoo.com if you'd like to part with any! Thanks!

Re: turkey fans
I made my Dad a clock using pheasant & partridge fans as a decorative backing behind the clock face. Turned out pretty nice, only problem is Mom hates it because it's a dust magnet.

Re: turkey fans
Well, my brother has the same problem and I know that he has taken some tail feathers and painted a "struttin tom" or a whitetail deer on the feather. I guess it is quite popular. He will include a them with his hand made turkey calls. I think there are many uses for them. Hook up with a artist and start a busisness.

Re: turkey fans
Bill, though I don't think you can ever have too many fan mounts this struck me as a neat idea. I actually saw it on another forum. Check it out......
