Default 1st spring turkey ever!!!(pics)

Well last saturday and sunday I went turkey hunting with my dad, his friend Vince and his son Jake. Early saturday morning we called in 4 toms. 1 left the group to come check things out or something and he got about 2 yards away from our home made blind when Jake shot him. We were hunting on a lady's property and she wanted us to take out a couple of the turkeys on her land because they messed up her garden. So we took her offer and bagged one on saturday. Then we went back sunday to try and get me a shot at a turkey. We set up in the same spot as saturday and the turkeys flew on the other side of the creek. We called to them for about an hour and then we decided to go find them. Me and Dad went into a timbered area and didn't here anything. Then as we were walking out we heard a gobble. So we got set up and called for about 45 min. Then we heard one flapping his wings and he flew right over our heads. And then we decided to move closer. Vince and Jake were filming a lot of this too. We moved to another tree for about 5 min. Then got right at the edge of the timber to see if we could see anything. Dad saw one and we decided to sneak up on it. We got close enogh to where I had a shot and I took it. I dropped him like a ton of bricks! We went and got him and took him home to eat. When we got home we weighed it and it weighed 24 lbs. Then while I was at baseball pictures my dad plucked it for me and gutted it and cut out all the fat. After everything was cut off it weighed 18 lbs. I don't mean to make Jake feel bad but his was 19 lbs. I still think that's a huge bird. That was the coolest thing that I have ever done in my entire life. That was my first kill besides fish. It was awesome too!

Here's my 24 lbs. spring turkey.

That's a great bird! Congratulations! Not too many get that big. I'm doing a story for the paper about turkey hunting. If you'd like to give me a call (or your dad), I'll be in the office Monday. It's toll-free, 888-222-8231. (And I won't publish your hunting spot, either)
Way to go...

You bet that's a nice bird! You should contact your local NWTF chapter and get that bird in for a record in your age bracket. The NWTF also puts bird pictures in their magazine Turkey Call that all NWTF members get. You could be famous! Hey, bet you don't miss another opening day the rest of your life! I got hooked twelve years ago and was hooked when I heard my first gobble! Sends chills up your spine huh? Best hunting there is- bar none!!! You should also send your story to Turkey,Turkey Hunting magazine (and suscribe if you don't already). Glad to see another hunter hooked! Ken Cox
