broadheads question?????
How many blades should i use when i'm hunting elk.. In the past i have used a 3 blade 125grain muzzy. My local bow shop recommended a two blade 100 grain head. My question is how will it fly and the penetration on the animal? I am currently using a hoyt protec 60lbs bow. Also, which brand should i use?
thanks...

Re: broadheads question?????
I would say shooting 60lbs, you may want to drop down to a 100 gr. to get your speed up a little. As far as two vs. three blades? Who knows. Personal preference I guess.Steelforce makes a nice two blade that has some bleeder blades on the bottom. I tried the Magnus broadheads last year but did not like them. Just curious, being from Vancouver, do you go to archery world? Joe's a great guy!

Re: broadheads question?????
The Muzzy will do the job. It's all about personal preference, almost any top quality bradhead will do the job with good shot placement.

Re: broadheads question?????
Thanks for the quick responses....
Being from Vancouver, my favorite bow shop is archery world. I think it was Joe who recommended Steelforce 2 blade100 grain broadheads to me. I think i might give them a try.
thanks again.....

Re: broadheads question?????
Like Myles said, put it in the bread basket and don't worry about who made it, as long as it is sharp!
I have met quite a few who swear by two blades, most liked them best because they start cutting immediately.
I shoot threes or fours and prefer a chisel point versus conical if I have a choice. If you hit bone, it holds up better and has a cahnce to be reused by replacing just the blades.
Good Luck.

Re: broadheads question?????
I have five steelforce broadheads that have been through deer and elk. All but one of them went back into the quiver after a touch up sharpening. The only one that didn't had a small tweak to one of the bleeder blades and barely bent the tip of the broadhead. I pulled it out of the opposite shoulderblade of my last bull. Absolutely a great broadhead by any means. Muzzy also has a good reputation but I would stray a little from blades that are replacable. I used to shoot thunderheads a lot and had some break apart on me when hitting some hard objects, including animals. Can't say I lost one due to the head, but when they fall apart from hitting bone it makes you wonder.
My advice, steelforce all the way.

Re: broadheads question?????
I've shot Muzzy for about five years. . . last year I went to my local pro shop and they showed me a video of an independent group testing several brands of broadheads...Steelforce wins hands down and I shot them last year. Unfortunately I didnt have the opportunity to shoot them at anything but a target last year, but they required NO tuning beyond screwing them in. . . .flew great!
