Default New Boat --Ed Wing-

Picked up a new 23' Ed wing last Thursday. First thanks to all those who helped with my decision both responding on this forum or showing me their boat in person and their likes and dislikes about the boat.
Have moved from a 19' Arima sea ranger (open) to the Edwing, and what drove my decision was size and room, ability to trailer due to the weight of aluminum, cost vs the comparable Seasports, Orcas etc, setup of the boat and general bulletproofness of the ed wing. Realize that you forgo niceties in finish, but that wasn't important for me.
Have fished the ed wing now a couple times, once on friday 15 miles south of the CR and had to run against a steep chop in 20 knot winds so got some idea how it handles. Handles the slop a lot beter than the Arima. Was able to maintain 10-12 knots into the seas and the hull design allowed us to break through the chop. Took some spray over the house but with the washthrough deck no matter. Also had Ed seal the window with silicone so no leaks. Have 130 hp Honda and am still breaking it in but without opening it up, can run 20-25 knots. Fishes well with plenty of room and the cabin allows for comfort which is appreciated. Big change from being out in the elements on the Arima.
The downside is the boat is light for its size (ie compared to glass boats of the same size) allows for easier trailering, but with the cabin makes for a lot of windage when at low speeds. Docking in tight slips at Warrenton with a NW wind is challenging as the house acts as a sail and at idle speed it can be frustrating to say the least. Still small price to pay for the advantages.
Ed was easy to work with and very accomodating. Willing to incorporate the modifications I wanted and was within a week on time and on price.
Now looking forward to offshore trips for tuna which haven't done since commercial fishing years ago. Would run out of Astoria or Garibaldi after have broken in the motors. Also want the tuna to move closer in than the 80+ miles where they are now. So will be looking forward for other boats to run with.

Sorry
My wife just informed me we're at the M dock in Warrenton, not the H dock

Cant wait to see her, especially any modifications you've done. I feel your pain, on the wind in the harbor thing. Mine blows around like a purple sailor with horsepower. Your gonna love your boat though.

Congratulations on your new boat I'm looking at boating-up next year myself, & Edwings are looking better & better as a choice for me. Do you have a tn# or email add. for Edwing boats?

Congratulations and condolences! Yes, they are a pig in port.

I have a little bigger slip this year (YAY!) and find I have much better luck backing in than trying to take it nose-on.

Congradulations on completing the 12 months of pregnancy labor pain

I also found Ed very easy to work with, as long as I wanted what he wanted to build

That pig in a harbor thing is getting easier for me to manage, you will find the same with a little time behind the wheel.

Hope to look it over to see what improvements he is making in the current version.

I guess with the finish that comes 'standard' on the Ed Wing's (from all the ones I've seen at least). When it comes to parking them the best thing that can be said, is when others see you coming. They put out THEIR bumpers, so you don't have to!

Maybe Ed should incorporate those built in permanent type bumpers that come on Tugs and the like? Or maybe just nail a bunch of old tires around the edges?

Either way...tough boats. She just ain't too purty (in a shiny type of way) But 35 miles off shore in the blow she sure is.
