Default "The Jaws"

Well because the crabbing was so incredible I am heading down to the coast in the am to do it again (Originaly I was thinking Drano)I thought I might troll some cut plug in the Jaws (Tillamook or Nehalem). Yes I know there is an article in this months STS magazine

Anyway any thoughts about hitting the jaws for a possible pick up?? (Can't be any worse the springers on the big C right??)

Thoughts??

Thanks guys (and gals)

Paul

Fished the Neahlem Sunday, saw 4 total at the jaws taken. 3 were in one boat... they were fishing very close to the tip of the South jetty - closer than I would care to.

After the rush in, we turned and fished inside and although we didn't see any netted, we were told of two at the pilings.

so there are fish there...somewhere.

The STS article was about fishing the jaws on an outgoing tide. I'm surprised they ran that article. That is a pretty bad idea in my mind, especially at Nehalem. But some people will do some risky things to a catch fish.

I wouldn't hesitate to be there on an incoming. On an outgoing tide your risk of something bad happening if your motor quits goes up exponentially. In most of those small bars there are breakers across the openings with any decent ebb tide flow.

Good luck.

Outgoing on the Nehalem jaws would be terrifying if you experience engine failure...on a good rip you would have about 2 minutes to make a miracle happen.

Fished the jaws at Nehalem this morning, 0630-0930. Quite a few boats out. Saw one caught and one lost and that was it. Cut plug was the favored bait. Water temp was 50 degrees at the end of the south jetty.
