The game laws seem to only make reference to Bear and Cougar. I believe it is legal to bait deer.

I'm pretty sure it is legal, at least in some way. I was told years ago by an ODFW bio that it was legal to lay salt blocks out. Don't know any more than that.

It is 100% legal to "bait" deer in Oregon.

I know a guy, originally from the US southeast, who hunts from a 16' tall tripod stand near his electronic deer feeder that he maintains year-round. He thinks it is a very sporting way to hunt.

I have some experience with making minerals available to deer...for antler and body growth...with some good results, i think. I had a local animal feed supplier make up 1000 pounds of a powdered mix containing about 30% salt...the rest consisted of various vitamins, minerals, etc...lots of calcium, phosphorus, etc. plus all trace elements deer need. The results were spectacular at Siltcoos Lake. I had control of a 2,000 acre homestead our company bought and the old homesteader's cabin had 40 or 50 old deer racks nailed up to the wall in front. They were all typical coastal blacktail racks...small, deformed, nothing larger than a 3-pt. I started putting out my deer horn mix in 3 places on that tract in February...and by August the loggers who drive thru it began reporting "huge Mule deer" with big 4 pt racks. I saw a couple of these deer from a distance...yup, they looked like mulies...but they weren't. Unfortunately, 2000 acres wasn't big enough and these bucks were all shot on neighboring land or by the same loggers who couldn't resist shooting as they passed thru our land...

Then I took a 5 pound bag of the stuff over to the Ochoco NF one year. Spread it on the ground around an old stump and on the stump itself. Wadded up the bag and shoved it into a crack on another stump. The next year I found the first stump and 1" of topsoil around it "gone" and the stump where the empty bag went was half gone. The deer really liked that mix.

Baiting is legal, but be careful what you put out...Wisconsin hunters are now wondering whether a mix they put out to help deer growth has contributed to chronic wasting disease. I think the mix contained some animal matter, though.

Sounds kinda like baiting the hole to me. What ever happened to hunting for them? I'm pretty sure it's legal though.

I remember Fishalot and I went in to our hunting area before the bow season road closure and left behind a bale or two of hay for target practice during the season. Would you believe that someone came in and stole our hay but left the bailing twine.

I've heard about putting doe estrus urine on marbles . Then by using a sling shot people shoot the marbles into the bottom of a draw in a clearing. The bucks are supposed to go crazy and rub their noses in the ground. That is about the point when hunter/baiter comes along and shoots his deer. Legal- I guess, Ethical- Not in my opinion. But if you gotta eat whatever floats your boat.

Baiting is called feeding in the south.

I have hunted and shot game from blinds over feeders. Would I do it again? No!

My family has a place in central Texas that we have 4 feeders and 4-25' tall fully enclosed and heated blinds. We all used the blinds several years ago, but then agreed it wasn't sporting/hunting. So now the blinds are used for elderly and handicapped guests. We thought about removing the feeders totally, but with the places around us feeding the game, animals would not frequent our place as often.

Even if baiting is legal in Oregon, I say don't start!

Plant an apple tree in your favorite spot. Deer love apples...
