The Chinese Communist Party! Yep. From the People's Daily, on today's front page of their English website,

Pictured here is the ceremony for Japan's surrender to the allied forces held on the "Missouri" warship in Tokyo Bay, on Sept. 2, 1945. After 14 years of heroic struggle and bloody war, the Chinese people, under the banner of the CPC-initiated anti-Japanese national united front and using backward weapons and equipment, defeated the powerful enemy which was stronger than China in terms of economic strength and military equipment, and wrought the miracle of defeating the imperialist power by a weak semi-colonial country.

Of course, let's not forget the French role in defeating the forces of evil, either. The CPC should really give credit where it is due and recognize the contributions of the French.

With their upcoming joint military exercises, Beijing and Moscow will send signals to the United States that Washington will not want to see -- the potential of close Sino-Russian military and political cooperation and the possibility of China's increased ability to complicate U.S. naval operations in its waters. Though the exercises do not indicate an upcoming Chinese invasion of Taiwan, they are a major step in training China's forces to achieve such a goal -- a fact that will not be lost on Taipei. The exercises will not only lead Russia and China's allies to feel they have solid protection, they also will result in China's acquiring more advanced Russian military hardware, and Russian and Chinese officers and troops will gain experience by working together. Though the upcoming exercises are very different from the original plan, they signal a burgeoning military interoperability that could be needed elsewhere -- perhaps in Central Asia -- to prevent another pro-Western "revolution."

Digifish, it's because the French fought on BOTH sides of World War II. The Vichy French were allied with the ****'s, and a few of them actually put up a fight against the Allies.

How we got from a comment about an apparent overstatement of the Chinese Communist Party's role in the surrender of Japan, coupled with an offhand comment, historically accurate, about the French military role in World War II all the way to "hate" is beyond me. I don't hate anybody, least of all the French. I don't even dislike them. The French Resistance made enormous and heroic sacrifices. So please let's not go looking for fights, cuz I don't wanna, and I'm not gonna. 'Kay?
