Default starting to get in shape.

Well, I've decided to start stepping up my cardio and leg workouts. I like to bow hunt in eastern oregon, and some of the steep stuff can just about kill you. I'm in pretty decent shape, but
starting to feel my years. Last fall I was sucking wind good a few times. The extra sweat does'nt help with scent either. I plan on being better conditioned this fall. I know it will make the hunt more enjoyable, and possible more successful.

No question that it helps to excercise before season comes. I've been riding my bike all winter going on long road rides up hills and mtns. I can't wait for bow season.........

Makes it so much more enjoyable when you are in shape. I know some consider round a shape but lean and mean is much better for rough country. Do cardio and lift a few weights and you will be amazed at your progress.

I am recovering from a torn Achillies tendon myself, which cast a different light on the fall seasons. We drove around our wlk country last week, and just looking up at the rocks and hillsides made me cringe. Hopefully I will be fully recovered physically by elk season. It the mental aspect of fearing a re-tear that I am worried about.

I just started hitting the mountain bike again after taking the winter off. I agree completely that the season is more enjoyable when I am in shape and not limited by my physical conditioning. I find this to be especailly true the older I get . One thing I notice is that even when I make it to eastern oregon in good shape, I still find it takes a couple days to acclimate to the difference in elevation and oxygen levels. Anyone else notice this? Or have any advice for dealing with the elevation change?

I can't wait until bow season starts. I have been running about 15 miles a week. I will keep doing so until the start of the season.

Nothing like being young. My pops is always crying about aches and pains after the hunt, while I'm already talking about the next one. I play soccer year round and it amazes people when I tell them that I can't hunt to much or I will get out of shape for soccer! After running a couple of miles at practice, there is nothing like a nice relaxing walk through the brush, and I even get to carry my gun!
