Taking the wife fishing Friday
Ok here is the deal. My wife finds fishing boring mainly cause she has been with me plunking the Columbia. This will be only the 3rd time she has gone with me cause its not that often we get a day without the kids. I am just not sure where to take here for steelhead. I was thinking of going to the NFN. I have only fished there at the hatchery but it seems like there is limited space until there is private property. Is there better places further down the road? I came in off of 26 so didnt get to travel much along the river. Another place I was thinking was the Elocoman but I have no idea how the fishing is up there right now. Anyone have any ideas where I should take her? Anyone drifting there boat on friday on coastal rivers on friday? I would be happy to pay for shuttle and gas? Shoot I would pay $50 if someone new what they were doing. I got all my own tackel and rods. I would have hired a guide but with christmas and everything just couldnt afford it right now. If anyone has any ideas let me know. I appreciate the input.

scout,
Can't help you out this time. I can tell you if the wife finds fishing boring, take her shad fishing this may/june. It's a great opportunity to take her fishing, catch a ton of fish and maybe get her more hooked. She'll have a blast.

Sturgeon fishing is the way to do it. See if you can hook up a ride from someone. I'd bet money your wife will love it. (Make sure they have a heater. )

Re: Taking the wife fishing Friday
I would sleep in Friday, make you wife a nice breakfast, head out about 10:30am and hit the lower Willamette or the Kelly point area for Sturgeon. We fished the soft water just down from Kelly point last Sunday and put about 20 shakers in the boat in a couple of hours. Smelt was the ticket. Like Tackle Busters says downsize you baits. Use 1/2 of even 1/3 of a smelt and you'll do better. Good luck!!!

Re: Taking the wife fishing Friday
Well my boat is waiting for me at Stevens Marine.
I am seriously thinking about getting one after I get my taxes back. Well keep you posted. I just read the weather report at the NWS and its going to rain all day tomorrow. I think I will postpone on taking here fishing. Its our Anniversary weekend so we have no kids all weekend so I think we will do are Portland shopping and nice dinner tomorrow and maybe fish if it works out on Saturday. Thanks for the input guys, I will give a report if we go fishing.
Thanks

Re: Taking the wife fishing Friday
I hear ya man. My spouse was not really in the fishing scene, but was into it when we were away from the crowds. I ended up shooting my mouth off to the knuckle heads that have the blank look on the face as they use grotesque fishing methods that they assume goes unoticed. So needless to say, stay away from the crowds. Granted some crowded areas have fish, but some gals, my wife included, dislike the crowds. It's just not fun for some!
The hired guide should do the trick. Then she will be more game to get away from the banky crowds and have a bit more freedom and choices. And it may place you and the family in a boat a bit more sooner.
Good luck.
