Rogue River steelhead

I'm heading down to the Rogue River next Friday to fish for steelhead (mostly the half-pounders). I have fished the Rogue before, but not w/ much success. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to fish w/, techniques, or locations to fish? We will have a jet boat and will be camping at the Kimball Campground above Gold Beach. Thank you for any tips!

I like to back troll flies, just like fishing plugs. It makes for some violent strikes. Also, I have had luck throwing egg imitations.

I'm with RogueFishr. Fish the edges of the breaks. The fish tend to move to the sides because of all the boat traffic. Fish high up on the breaks in the slower water too. Other classic Steelhead water will produce also, like riffles and pockets. Morning and evening should be the best

What's the word on the river in regards to the fire? I know that between Grants Pass and Gold Beach there's been some closures. And last I heard (granted, a couple weeks back) fishing below Lost Creek Dam was pretty slow...

Good luck down there Clacksteel... listen to the Pastor and RogueFishr... they're much closer to the action...
