Default Hunting question......Help

If I put in for a deer and elk tag (east side) and fail to draw, can I then turn around and hunt with a bow? Do I need a special tag?

What about blackpowder? Do you have to draw tags for this too? If so, can I apply for both rifle and blackpower tags hoping to draw one or the other?

Finally, what is the easiest legal blackpowder gun to buy for Oregon? It will be for my wife.

Thanks fellow ifishers....

I'm pretty sure you can put in for whatever hunt you want, and if you don't get it, you can still hunt general seasons, as long as you buy your tag before the deadline.

I think you can also put in for more than one type of hunt, but I'm not sure. Check the regs. Its a little cluttered, but this stuff is in there, somewhere...

Yes, you can still hunt with a bow if you don't draw your tags. That will probably change in the near future, but is still ok. Yes, you do have to draw for blackpower tags unless you want to use one during the regular rifle season (which is legal but not sure why someone would want to). You can apply for tags but only one draw per animal. Let me explain. You can put in for a rifle elk as your first choice, and a muzzleloader for your second, and another rifle tag for the third choice. But you can only draw one thing and only apply once.

Finally there really isn't a easy blackpowder that's legal in oregon anymore. All of them are manually loaded and no sabots are allowed with an open ignition. A .50 cal is about as low as I'd go though to buy one.

Yes, if you don't get your draw you can hunt general season, gun or bow. I may be wrong but it's my understanding that you may apply for only one type of hunt, but you can put as your second/third/... choices can be in another hunt #.
If you don't get your first choice you may get your second choice and still get a preference point.

tailchaser- What leads you to believe that you will no longer be able to buy general season tags if you put in for a controlled tag and don't draw?

SalmonKind- I saw your other post about La Grande hunting. I have a cousine who I talked to last night and he said he hunts duck, chuckar and turkey within 15 minutes of town. He bow hunts deer and elk and said within an hour drive he hunts areas that he won't see another person the entire season. I would check out the area around the starkey experimental forest. There is great fishing over there as well. Plenty of steelhead, Wallowa lake (where they say the next state record for Kokanee will come from) the snake river for bass and catchfish. If it werent for the long drive from the salt I would live in La Grande myself.
