I think the 7.5"-8" mesh size (gilnet) was designsd to allow the passage of steelhead.

Allow the passage of small steelhead. Or maybe a small one will get gilled or its teeth stuck. The 15 to 20+ pound steelhead have no chance. But who cares right. The count seems to drop with the nets, no coincidence. Last year, as ive stated before, every SH i caught had net marks. One even had its scales completely scraped off on both sides.
Sure made him easier to filet.

Oh come on guys the nets dont take all the steehead or salmon or sturgeon. All the nets tell the counters about all the fish that they take and it is so bad that they should get to go out again and get more because the poor gillnetters have to feed their familys. So maybe the nets just scare all the fish back to the ocean because the netters counts do not show that they have caught all these fish.

It sounds like they are going to get a lot of days to run the nets this season. That should really help their local economy.

Poor guys. The gillkillers i know already have good jobs. Wait until fall and they get 50 cents a pound while paying $2.50 a gallon for gas. I hope their kids dont have to wait in line for cheese. :depressed:

Yeah it's sad, the "Salmon Extinction Plan" seems to be right on schedule.

I'm normally a "glass half full" kinda guy, but this gillnet thing is CRAZY. WE have to stop STRIPMINING our river.

I've SEEN what the gillnets do.

Oh well there are always Bass!!!

The largest walleye I have ever seen in person came out of a net and was just thrown to the side. It wasn't a record but well on it's way.
