tradition/superstitions
well august is here and my beard is coming in nicely. i'm generally clean shaven or small mustach with high-n-tight hair cut. but august 1 i start the yearly beard, and i don't shave till i make a kill with my bow.luckily i get to shave every year before season is over but one year i had to shoot a grouse on the last day(kinda counts)! anyone else have things they do every year for luck?

Re: tradition/superstitions
Grandpa gave me an old, lime-green backpack a few years ago. Its just some old Wal-Mart special. I used it for waterfowl hunting last year to pack my coffee, shells, calls and snacks. We had the greatest year of any of our lives, taking more birds in the month of January than any of us had taken in our lives. . .probably close to combined! That pack, though cheap and ugly, will always ride on my shoulders on the way out to the island.

Re: tradition/superstitions
I have my 6x6 bull tooth around my neck, and my lucky arrowhead in my daypack. I also have a $1 Susan B. Anthony coin in my wallet. I found it on the ground the day that I bagged my biggest bull. Good for the Mojo!!

Re: tradition/superstitions
I always grow a beard from the first day of Deer camp till I hopefully put an Elk on the ground. Of course this only works when I manage to draw both tags. I plan on making it work this year! I also always place a small dab of blood on my hunting hat so I always have a part of their spirit with me.

Re: tradition/superstitions
I use to hunt with Gus Orviston, but his portable TV so he could watch "Steel Magnolias" each evening around the campfire, followed up with a ritual of nail polish remover and a new color of toe nail polish for each days hunt was just to much for me and I got a new hunting partner that wasnt so Metrosexual.
No rituals for me, I just make sure I have lots of water and some food with me.

Well ! I will be all by myself in the woods for a week. I may need to find something to keep the Evil spirits out of my face.
A whole week without another human

Tradition:I go the other direction. Shave or trim back everything . Hair holds scent. Superstition: My good luck charm, never fails me, is to cook sauted onions. No idea why it works, heck it sounds like it should be bad for the body scent. But it works. The day after eating sauted onions I see more and get more animals.

Re: tradition/superstitions
My family's tradition is simply a toast the night before to my late brother and my late grandfather. The toast usually consists of how much they would have enjoyed the country we happen to be in and how much we would have enjoyed having them with us.
