Default Turkey Day! (Pic Thread)

This is the first opener that I have not been in the woods in 5 years, bummer!

I am sure that most of us will be hitting the woods on this weekend, self included but if somebody already has a pic to post of thier long or short beard let see it. Please add a little info like region of the state, time of day, wieght and any little tricks that helped you bag him.

Gobble, Gobble!

This is my buddy Jeff with a tom he took with his bow on opening morning. Over his right shoulder you can see the pop-up blind we hid in. The bird weighed 19.5 lbs w/ a 9" beard and 3/4" spurs.

Here are a pair of toms my dad and I shot on saturday at noon. It was an awesome hunt and the best part was that we got it all on film. My bird weighed 22 lbs w/ a 9 1/8" beard and 1 1/2" spurs. Dad's bird weighed 22.5 lbs with an 8" beard and no spurs. As you can see his bird took a mud bath after going down.

Here is one of the spurs from my tom.

Here is my dad with our toms standing next to the oak where I hid. Dad hid up against another oak to my right.

No fancy tricks to get these birds just knowing the lay of the land, the birds patterns and most of all PATIENCE!

Those are some great birds. Was that around Corvallis? Been striking out lately. Hunted White River opening morning. Long story short, the toms flew down on the wrong side of a stand of trees whereas the hens almost landed on me. 20 birds and only 200 of my closest buddies out running around. Hunted Kings Valley last Saturday. There had been 30 turkeys in that same field less than a week ago. 5 am to 1 in the afternoon and I never heard or saw one. Someone must have had a good opening day. I'll be in Canyonville this Saturday trying my luck and then Hells Canyon for a few days. Hope to turn this season around. Very nice pics guys. Congrats.

Nice birds, and congratulations.

I've had 23 walking through my yard for about a year now, and the next door neighbor (who doesn't hunt) had some buddies up for opening morning. I told him, "Hell, don't bother with all that camo stuff. Just walk out in your bathrobe and knock 'em in the head."

I guess they were pretty successful because I did hear some shooting and they haven't been back around.

But I sure wouldn't want anyone to confuse that with hunting. There was nothing even remotely connected to "fair chase" about "harvesting" those birds. My grandma could have done it with a hatchet.

The birds were taken in Douglas County.
Skein I know what you mean about your "backyard" turkeys. It is unfortunate that such a neat bird is so easily domesticated.
